You see, it's comments like this that I don't understand. And if one brings up say Musk, Zuckerberg or even Gates or Jobs, people are quick to point out how they only got to where they are through their lying, scheming ways and taking advantage of people.

Ok fine, sometimes business is a dog eat dog world. And if you said some of them did shady things, I guess it's understandable.

But what about Lucas and Spielberg, are they also not deserving of their wealth?

Sometimes? Free market capitalism only exists if dogs eat other dogs, and the big dogs almost never lose. More power to you if you think two dudes who made some good movies deserve to be among the richest people who ever lived. For centuries it was kings and tyrants, now it's creepy dweebs like the Zuck who have houses in Lake Tahoe worth more than most of the country will make in their lives. Maybe that's progress.

Can I suggest removing the "Dallas Mavericks owner and "shark tank" host" clue, as for a Brit, and possibly a non North American, that clue reads as 'Owns sports team you have never heard of and presents a TV show that isn't shown in your country."

I appreciate there is a limited pool of globally famous billionaires but that one is all but impossible for those of us from over the pond.

How about replacing it with someone like David Geffen, or James Dyson?

Who the heck is James Dyson? Mark Cuban is more internationally famous.
+3
Level 65
Jan 21, 2020
No he is not, never heard of cuban, and instantly knew who dyson was. Even if you dont know much about him himself, the vacuum cleaner with his name is pretty wellknown worldwide. (Wether or not you like vacuuming, which cant be said for cuban. There are some athletes than are known worldwide whether or not you like/watch sports. He is not one of them.)
+3
Level 82
Jan 24, 2020
I've heard of Dyson vacuums but that doesn't mean I know who James Dyson is. Is James Dyson on a famous reality TV show and appear regularly on other talk shows? If I said, hey, haven't you ever heard of Junichi Honda before? Would you say that you had, simply because you know what a Honda Civic is? If so.. then you'd look silly because I just made that guy up. The founder of Honda was apparently a guy named Soichiro.

I don't like or watch sports at all. But I've seen Mark Cuban on TV. but honestly I don't really care I'm just giving Algernon grief because he posts the same whiny comment on every single quiz it seems. All based on his very limited and myopic point of view, i.e. if he doesn't know something, it must not be internationally famous, and if he does know something, well then it must be. This is obviously wrong.

As an Australian, I knew who Dyson is. Cuban kinda sorta rings a bell, maybe, but only through occasional references in sitcoms, etc. They don't tell me he's a billionaire, though.

biggus beat Algernon to saying something blatantly wrong, but Al saw the need to pipe in that he was about to be wrong, too. Cool. I have never in my life made a habit of doing what I described above, and would have said nothing about Dyson if not to help illustrate - what I hope would be obvious to most - the fact that knowing about someone is a subjective measure of international celebrity. Internalize this fact, stop leaving such comments, and I'll immediately stop responding to them. Promise.

Controversial means giving rise to public disagreement. Former means having filled a particular role in the past. The billionaire in question is no longer on Twitter, and he's more controversial than any current or former Twitter user I can think of. The clue you're referring to is a direct and unbiased statement of fact.

Crazy that in just one month, so much has changed in the market. We're seeing the biggest drops since the beginning of the pandemic. Musk has lost over 30b in the last month, Zuckerberg will probably lose that much tomorrow. We saw Netflix fall 30% in a single day, and now Meta. Buffett, meanwhile, has made 6b in the past month, and the two Google Founders, 8b just today.
