Got all the names and most coat of arms but totally missed out on most of the seats. It's time for new episodes so I shall master this quiz.

Completely forgot the Targaryens *facepalm*. This makes me want to reread the series! Cool quiz

It's almost always the ones I forget as well. I just visualise the continent of Westeros, and go from there. Hence it's easy to forget the Targaryens when we haven't read of them at all there yet.

Dragonstone is like Washinton DC it's not in a state yet still in the seven kingdoms :P

Ages since I read any of the books and haven't finished the latest one yet. Also only seen one season. All things considered not bad with 17/27, missed most of the seats, but got all houses but Arryn and missed only two Coats of Arms.

I know the Baratheon sigil is a stag but I think you should also make deer acceptable.

In the books it is only referred to as a stag

Hmm... maybe make a note of when this is? The Targaryen seat hasn't always been Dragonstone, Baratheons the same, if we go far back enough, even Tully, etc.

The standard nine Great Houses are what stood for centuries between Aegon's Conquest and Robert's Rebellion. If you want to be specific about Targaryens being from Valyria and Baratheons being bastards, or the inclusion of Dorne, or Tullys being ruled by Harren the Black of the Iron Islands for years, or Tyrells being upjumped stewards of the Gardeners, or Targaryens being extinct at the start of the series, or Baratheons being split into two factions holding Storms End and Dragonstone under different banners, or the Boltons taking Winterfell and all the Stark heirs being believed dead or disinherited... it gets real confusing real fast.

There's only nine recognized Great Houses and who's included is pretty standard.

It's not that standard. As exemplified by the chalice given as a present to Joffrey in his wedding, there are only seven Great Houses (the Targaryens had been exiled, and the Greyjoys were no longer considered a Great House after they lost the Riverlands in the Conquest).

But the test does not ask for Great Houses (in-world definition), but for major houses. And in this regard, the selection of those nine is fine. However, I don't think selecting Dragonstone as the Targaryen seat is accurate: they had holdings in Valyria for centuries, then ruled Dragonstone for just 125 years, then in King's Landing for three centuries, and then were exiled. King's Landing, therefore, was their seat more recently and for more time than Dragonstone, and it's a better answer (or at the very least, should be accepted as a type-in)

Couldn't remember how to spell "Targaryen".

Surprised to see the Frey's weren't on here.

Can you accept deer for baratheon's stag?

You have to accept Golden rose for Tyrell's coat of arms and three headed dragon for Targaryen's coat of arms

It's not very accurate to depict Dragonstone as the Targaryen seat. The seat of the Targaryens had been in Valyria for thousand years until 126 BC. Then it was Dragonstone for 126 years until the Conquest. Then it was King's Landing until Robert's Rebellion, in 283 AC. When the series starts, the remaining Targaryens live in Pentos, and so far Dany has her seat in Mereen (in the books) or in Dragonstone (in tv). But in both cases she's heading to King's Landing again, so I'd t least include this one.

Also, "Gates of the Moon" should be accepted for Arryn, since it's their winter seat.

King's Landing is the castle from which the Targaryen kings ruled, no more. Dragonstone continued to be the seat of the family where many of them, including rulers, actually lived, and was traditionally held by the heir to the throne. The nine Great Houses are standard and this is how you'd list them.

Isn't "the castle from which a family rules" the very definition of their seat?

The fact that Dragonstone was traditionally given to the heir of the crown exemplifies that it was no longer the seat of the king, or his court, or the center of the government. Eventually the Targaryens held other castles too, like Summerhall, but their indisputable seat of the family was King's Landing and the Red Keep.

Haven't read the books in a while and I'm amazed at the things I forgot. I've read the books at least 3-4 times and wAtched some of the show, I should know this! Still got 17/27 but should have done better!
