At first I thought it must be an aquatic animal due to the drift clue, but I couldn't think of any with hands. Then I thought something living in a tree probably would want to stay close, too, so I was typing every type of ape and monkey I could think of, and I even tried human - my husband and I don't like to drift too far apart at night, either. :) I agree, the clue should be changed to paws.

Google "otter hands" images and see what you think then. Five fingers, pink, flexible....sure look a lot like hands.

Yea and humans are the only ones with ears too right? People just invented other words to make them self feel superior and differentiate themself from animals. Because god forbid, you cant seriously consider humans and animals to be similar..

If it can grasp and has fingers it is a hand.

My goodness, I don't think anyone was trying assert a superiority over animals. I was taught that creatures with opposable thumbs such as humans and chimps, have hands, while quadrapeds without opposable thumbs have paws. It is a difference of anatomy. If otters fall into the former category then it was ignorance on my part, not an attempt to feel superior.(I just looked it up to see if otters have opposable thumbs, and one article said yes they do, another article said no, they do not, while a third article said not yet, but they appear to be evolving in that direction.)
