We get circumcised, but I think you're seriously misperceiving how passionate we feel about it. My understanding is that it's a sanitary issue, but either way, do as you will.

When my son was born the pediatrician came to my room to schedule the circumcision. I asked him, "Why does it need to be done?" He looked at me for a moment then said, "I don't know. No one's ever asked me that before." One of my friends had a son born while they were in the military. At that time the operation wasn't routinely done in military hospitals and when they moved back home her son was being made fun of in the locker room, so they had one done on their teenager. I felt sorry for him.

I completely agree with "do as you will" - as opposed to "force it upon a newborn that can't possible give consent". If people want to have pieces of their body unnecessarily cut off, they should do so when they're adults.

A few years back the German constitutional court ruled that infant circumcision was basically child abuse and should be illegal. The government quickly changed the law to allow it on religious grounds, but for a brief moment a court ruling managed to unite Jews and Muslims throughout the country in their insistence that unnecessarily cutting off perfectly healthy parts of their new born babies was a right they were prepared to fight for.

It's perhaps worth specifying in the wicked witch question that you're asking about the film version. In the original book they were silver.
