The Cape Buffalo is arguably the most dangerous of the big 5, they kill far more people annually than lions.

The most dangerous, maybe... but I think the elephant is the most dangerous. Out of the "big 5" club, the hippo is also quite deadly.

Should accept Water Buffalo, that's what we called it in America when I was a kid. I tried it but moved on.

Well, by all means, if that's what you called it in America... (which America, by the way?)

The water buffalo is an asian domesticated bovine, it is totally different from the african "black death" buffalo.

Never heard of umami before... I learned that we just had sweet, sour, salty, and bitter in anatomy and physiology. My best guess was earthy.

Umami was not recognized along with those original four flavors until much later, like in the 1980s or possibly even the 90s. The other thing we old people learned back in the day was that the taste buds for the different flavors are situated on different parts of the tongue – for instance, sweet on the tip. That turned out to be a complete load of hogwash.

level 21
Apr 20, 2016
Of course that myth is total hogwash. You don't eat foods differently on how they taste.

How did leopard beat out tigers, hippos, antelopes, gazelles, wildebeests, gorillas, giraffes, zebra, cheetahs, etc?
+1
level 77
Jul 19, 2013
Tigers aint African, the rest are presumable not classed as big game.
+1
level 49
Jul 19, 2013
The big five were chosen based on how difficult they are to hunt. You're a lot more likely to get killed attacking a leopard than attacking a gazelle.
+1
level 69
Mar 10, 2016
Hippos are indeed large and also dangerous AF, but I assume are not classified as "game" because they're all varying degrees of endangered/vulnerable, and are thus not generally huntable.

Because rhino's aren't endangered???

The leopard is the hardest to hunt and definitely the least seen of the 'Big 5' so easily earns its place on the list. You could track them for months using normal tracking methods and not even catch a glimpse

I think tangy should be accepted for bitter. Otherwise, for a non-American I'm surprised at how many of the states/ bowl games I got. Only got the games because I was in California when they were all on!

I thought tangy meant sour, too, but apparently, tangy means any flavor that is appetizing. Synonyms: zesty, sharp, acid, acidic, tart, sour, bitter, piquant, spicy, tasty, pungent https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=tangy%20define

I'll be the first to admit that I thought the Rat Pack only had three members. I've never heard of Bishop or Lawford. Who the f**k are those guys anyway? Guess it's like basketball team. The good ones can manage with a point guard, strong forward, and a big man. The other positions are luxuries.

The original five included Bishop. When their shenanigans got to be a bit too much, he dropped out (wife threatened bodily harm perhaps?) The remaining four became three when Lawford (JFK's brother-in-law) fell out of favor with Sinatra,

There are actually TWO best screenplay awards at the Oscars: best original screenplay, and best adapted screenplay (for those adapted from books, plays, etc.). This has been so for many years. Therefore, it's just as incorrect to say "Best Screenplay" is a single award as it would be to say there's a best lead acting award, when there are two: one for men, one for women,

Apr 25, 2016
The Big 5 Academy Awards refer to individual films that have won or been nominated for those 5 awards. A film can only win either adapted or original screenplay. For a film to win the "Big 5" it has to have won the screenplay award for which it was eligible.

Never knew they were "of Journalism". Anyway, the five biggest Mediterranean islands; as far as I know, they are in no actual particular grouping. Isn't this supposed to be actual "groups of five", rather than five particular members of a group?
