Had no idea on that last one until I realized that it made no sense - which made the answer quite obvious, really. Stonehenge!!!!

I would have used Stonehenge, but the song is just too annoying to be included in the Spotify playlist!

All I could think is what kind of loser band came up with that title? Oh, yeah! Nigel Tufnel of course.

Awesome quiz! ... Although whether Europe is a hair band or not is debatable.

R.I.P. to the victims of the Great White concert tragedy.

I think we can agree that all of these bands had hair. If Pitbull, REM, or Phil Collins showed up then...

Spinal Tap is absolutely a band. They were a spoof movie but a real band.

They wrote and performed all of their own music. They've released multiple albums and singles that have charted. They've performed live concerts. Just because they play characters and are parodying a style doesn't mean they're not a real band.

Spinal Tap is an actual band. They came out with a few albums after the mockumentary. With the all time classic Break Like the Wind, which peaked at number 61 on the US Billboard Charts). How could anyone ever forget them!?!?

Saying Spinal Tap is not a band is like saying The Blues Brothers was not a band. I happen to have an album from each.

Great quiz. Spinal Tap is 100% a real band. I saw them perform live and they are outstanding musicians with quality songs that are still regularly referenced 30 years later!

in my opinion, spinal tap may be considered a "real" band but it is more of a novelty and doesn't fit in with the rest of the list. however, thanks for the flashbacks! :)

argument to be made for several, but NO WAY can you say Guns'n'Roses, Van Halen or Scorpions were 'hair bands' ... and, is that a derogatory term? it shouldn't be. talented musicians fell victim to the MTV era. imho

I don't think it's a derogatory term. It just describes how some of them looked like. Not only the hair but clothes, accesoires and make-up. I think people have a better understanding of what is meant by hair band rather than Glam metal which is the same.

Have you seen the “welcome to the jungle” video? How high is Axle’s hair there? I can imagine he saw the clip and thought “dude, I gotta, like, fix that”

I'm inclined to agree with fatfitnessguy. I always thought "hair band" meant something more specific than an '80's rock band with lots of hair. It was an aesthetic. Poison and Ratt were hair bands. Guns-N-Roses and Van Halen weren't. Then again, all these bands wound up (at least temporarily) on the same trash heap when Nirvana came along, so maybe they had more in common than I thought.

GNR is not a hair band.

Aerosmith is not a hair band.

Van Halen is not a hair band.

Bon Jovi is borderline, but I wouldn't call them a hair band.

Def Leppard...eeehhhhh

Part of being a hair band is being not very good, largely forgettable outside the 80s and their one or two big songs. Also, there's a difference in the type of rock they play. It has to be 100% 80s.

A "hair band" is just another fancy term for glam metal. Glam metal typically involves fancy clothing, makeup, long hair, leather, etc. All of these bands have at least one of those elements. And yes, they were all popular in the 80s because that's when the genre was at its peak and continued to be until it was killed by grunge in the 90s (plus a few falling outs inside the bands themselves).

For those who need “hair band” defined, look at the back cover of Motley Crüe’s “shout at the devil”. Nikki Sixx could have been hired by the Queen to guard her palace.

Brian May does have ridiculously large hair and absolutely shreds on guitar, but otherwise...yeah, they're not even close. But if all you saw was Brian May and the only song you knew was "Fat Bottom Girls," you could be forgiven for calling Queen a hair band.
