Can you add that height is in feet- not that it really makes a difference, most people will either know the answers or won't.

The height of Mount Doom isn't unkown. I've got an atlas from middle-earth; right now I'm too lazy to look after it but if I remember right it's something between 1 and 2 kilometres. And too, it's NOT the heighest mountain in middle-earth.

It says highest mountain in Mordor, not Middle Earth.

The height of Mt Doom is known: it's 7515 feet. That's the height of Mt Ngauruhoe, which played the role of Mt Doom in the LOTR films.

Why the constant complaining about US questions on a US quiz site?

I know. I don't get it either. Some people just love to complain, I guess.

Because it became pretty much international site. Asking the name of the highest mountain in Oregon would be the same as asking the highest one in Baden-Württemberg (Germany), Dolnośląskie Voivodeship (Poland) or Finnmark (Norway). Adding height in meters or focusing a little bit less on US is just a sign of your courtesy towards us, non-Americans. Whether you like it or not, the internet is way more international than the real world.

It's not a US site. It's the Internet. At least label the quiz properly so those of us who don't want to take a quiz focussed on American mountains can avoid it. If you took quizzes pretending to be international in scope but found them to be mostly Estonian-based facts you might not like it either. It's boring unless that's what you're after. (No offense to Estonians!).

What's the source of Mount Doom being Mordor's highest mountain? I don't remember that being stated in the books.
+1

May 18, 2017
Well for one thing there are no other major mountains. Mordor is an area enclosed by the mountains, and Mount Doom sits on a plateau in the middle of Mordor. I can't recall if it says specifically in the book, but it can be reasonably assumed that Mordor is the highest.

Where I am, climbing the tallest mountain nearby involves a lot of cold and not a lot of oxygen (not that I've done it), and that mountain is not even half the height of Everest.

It's probably because "highest mountain on earth" sounds more impressive (and it's more descriptive) that "highest mountain in Nepal." BTW, it's also in China...

Do we know for sure that Mount Doom is the highest mountain in Mordor? After all, Mordor also encompasses the Ephel Duath and Ered Lithui. If it really is the highest, please add Orodruin as a type-in. And Citlaltépetl for Pico de Orizaba as well, please.
