I'm not sure in what sense 'freemason' is a 'historical' term. Freemasonry is current today and, so far as I know, isn't associated with any particular era. If anyone knows different, I will be happy to learn.

an omen is not necessarily a sign from the heavens, it is any warning of impending doom

All warnings of impending doom have their cause in the heavens. Please consult Herodotus, Plato, Plutarch, Plotinus, Proclus and Posidonius

Some ambiguous items here. Does landed estate always have a manor on it? I agree with a earlier statement that omens are not necessarily signs from heavens, but simply warnings or portents. And boy did "period in history" throw me - I tried renaissance, middle ages, stone age. Didn't realize it wanted a synonym for period, not an example of one. Sigh....

FORENAMES is also a 9 letter word and an anagram or freemason.

It's about as 'historic' a term as freemason.

Appropriately, I feel swindled.
