I think Palestine should really be added while Kosovo and Taiwan should really be removed, since the UN recognizes Palestine as a country but not Kosovo or Taiwan. So JetPunk should also observe this policy.
Wrong. There are the big five of the UN (USA, UK, Russia, China, and France.) The UK, France and the US recognize Kosovo and Taiwan, while Russia and China don't. Since these five can veto any decision at any time, Russia and China veto it and they can't get anywhere, even though most of the UN recognizes them. The same is for Palestine. Since the US has very close relations with Israel, they vote against Palestine every time to keep Israel happy. I personally think that they should all be on this quiz, but what the UN says goes.
I think I type really fast, I can do all 196 w/o stopping and the best I can do is 9:54...are there typing short cuts? Like I should think I could type UAE rather than United Arab Emirates but no go....or maybe I just don't type as fast I as think I can..
If we not including the countries of the Netherlands, or the Cook Islands and such, what constitutes as a country? Is being a sovereign state not enough? What other criteria is there?
Curious, when y'all post your pb do you pause during the quiz? My hands are a bit arthritic so I basically do my in 'chunks' east to west (e.g. Oceania, Asia), then I have to stretch. I'll have to try more abbrevs. It also helped when I finally clicked the 'hidden countries'.....duh
I am sooooooooo close to memorizing all the countries. 180 memorized. I am 12 years old. I don{t think this is too bad for my age. Great quiz though. :)
East Asia, Middle East, South and Central America were easy to spell and memorize locations. Europe was harder as ton of countries in eastern part.
Learning where every island in Caribbean and Oceania is, was hard. The "stans" were hardest to learn to spell, but once learn them, they're part of easy group.
I was easily doing every country outside Africa, where can point to any country and name it/spell it.
Africa is def the hardest, I was studying in chunks and finally got 100% every country in world, but still need to master it.
on average I type 80-90 WPM at like 95% accuracy. I've just practiced this quiz so many times in the same order that I've gotten it faster and faster with fewer mistakes. I think I use all the known shortcuts.
Anyone has some other ideas for geography challenges? I already know flags, countries, capitals, place of each country and all principal bodies of water…
Just hit a personal record! 194/196. I only just got into geography like 2 month ago and for someone still in middle school I think I did pretty good! I'm still having quite a bit of trouble with Oceania though.
Personally I have a specific order I type them in, that way I know I'm not forgetting anything (all the micro European nations together, pairing countries with the same letter, etc.) and after a lot of repetition my time just gets faster and faster.
After going to look up a video why that part of South Africa is sometimes grey and pops up with France, I didn't expect to find the geopolitical craziness that is the world.
I always thought UN decided on the 196ish countries, but seems a ton of people don't like to acknowledge others existence. Some for very bad reasons others for historical reasons, but yeah, I recommend it on YT, def helped me understand a ton of these small countries and why they exist, like Gambia, Lesotho, and Eswatini.
@xoxoameliaaaxoxo I smell cap. You may know every country, but you probably don't know languages, capitals, flags, nationalities, populations, and other things. That takes at least a year to master.
I’ve done this quiz so many times uh I just did it in 11 mins not too bad for a 12 yr old but oh well gonna try harder on spelling bc Kyrgyzstan is so hard to spell some times
Just a note for Quizmaster that the factoid #766 is no longer correct. In certain areas of the state of Oregon, consumers are now permitted to pump their own gas. These are places in remote parts of eastern Oregon. I was surprised the last time I was there, and asked the attendant about this. She said that the law had been changed a few years ago.
Finally got it down to 6:05 after about a month and a half of learning the countries and working on my time. Will continue to update as I get better scores.
my previous comments have disappeared that's how long i've been doing this quiz. personal best is 4:49 now, after 6 years of doing it every now and then.
Russia took it, Russia controls it. International recognition doesn’t matter. Likely countries don’t recognize simply because it was Russia who took it, and want to spite the ever-unpopular russia.
In 7 minutes but needed 2 and half minutes more for Gabon. Forgot about that one hard.

Once I get the memory covered I could type through this real quick.
