Right. An explanation of what countries are included or excluded. The de facto states of Abkhazia, South Ossetia, the DPR, LPR, and Transnistria are just illegally-occupied Russian territories, ditto Northern Cyprus with Türkiye and Artsakh with Armenia.
Western Sahara is not an independent state, but not part of Morocco.
Taiwan is an "unofficial" country, with control over its territory.
Kosovo is definitely a country, despite Serbia's wishes, with control over its territory and over half the world's recognition.
Palestine is more complicated, but is in a similar position to Western Sahara.
Every time i type Saint Kittis and Nevis for some reason it doesnt count. I have to go to google and copy paste it every time. I have tried it with different keyboards, ABC, German, Latvian, but nothing works. Help :(
My PB has been stuck at 7:35 for ages, i have no idea how you lot are managing times under 4 minutes lol. Surely your typing couldn't possibly be that fast?!
the more you do it the better you muscle memory gets. I also do it in order by continent: Oceania, Asia, Europe, North then South America, then Africa, also make sure to use abbreviations e.g KSA for Saudi Arabia. My time is 4:47
Palestine is more of a state than Taiwan and Kosovo. You don't know what you're talking about. There are 195 sovereign states as of 2022. 193 UN members + 2 observers which are PALESTINE and Vatican City.
Yet occupation usually means that the country occupying... is the one in control of the land? Korea was occupied by Japan for a while. Therefore, Korea didn't exist as a country. There were independence movements and a "government," but it didn't have control over its borders, its economy, its military, nor much of its people. Does that mean it's a country?
I am well aware that Palestine's situation is different. However, having control of your borders is one of the most important aspects of being a country, and that's something that Palestine significantly lacks.
This is one of my three favourite quizzes on JetPunk, along with the 196 world capitals and the 118 elements of the Periodic Table. Lots of memory work, which is good for an old gal. Thank you to whoever create these!
I got all 196 first try, which really surprised me, as even though I am really into geography, I never went out of my way to learn all of the countries, I just happened to be able to get them all. Tonga and Comoros almost got me, only a little over a minute left, but I could probably get faster if I practiced.
rly not sure how some people are getting less than 5 mins but ig it just comes down to practice, typing accuracy and speed lol. finally managed to get it in less than half the time !! fastest time is 7:29 :))
I finally got all 196 of them. I had to do the Africa map a couple times because there are so many countries there. I completed this at 3 AM. Only 13 too.
OH MY GOSH! I just realized that you can put in dr for Dominican Republic and drc for Democratic Republic of the Congo. Holy crap! My fastest time is about to be beaten.
It's a UN observer state (much like Vatican City), whereas Taiwan, which is technically not a country by conventional standards, is on the map. Now, I don't care whether you think Palestine exists or not, it certainly does for 138 other countries. So it does deserve a spot on the map.
Palestine is clearly the most country-like entity not to be recognized on JetPunk. I would argue that both Kosovo and Taiwan are *more* close to being countries that Palestine, but it is not purely objective. Personally, I would probably include all 3.
Um, Ukraine didn't steal Crimea. The Soviet Union transferred the peninsula from Russia to Ukraine after "taking into account the integral character of the economy, the territorial proximity and the close economic and cultural ties between the Crimea Province and the Ukrainian SSR" (as quoted from Wikipedia).
I won't comment on whether or not JetPunk should change Crimea's status on it's map, given that's not my choice to make. While Crimea is currently Russian occupied, Russia took control of it illegally and by force, directly opposite to the way Ukraine was given Crimea. However, it is undeniable that Crimea is currently under Russian control, though its international legal status is predominantly that it remains Ukrainian.
I go alphabetically. I'm whittling my time down and am almost under 9 minutes. But after reading the comments, I just learned a few more abbreviations so that should help. I'm also a hen-pecker typiest.
I usually go by continent. Or, at least, by region - I type the names of the countries neaby one another, then I apss to other ones.
Another path is first type all of the small countries, like Singapore, Vatican City, Andorra, Brunei, Trinidad and Tobago, etc. That way, it gets visually easier later on.
My time was 8:21 (the only one time I did this quiz, other times I did the portuguese version) and today I played again and I did in 6:06 but could have done under 6 minutes if I didn't mysclicked so much.
Can I please have a type-in for "Northern Macadamia Nuts"?
Think of the meme potential, QM! Think of the possible singular person to eventually try this name in years to come only to laugh their head off! Think of the value it will add in the egregious type-ins quiz! Think of the literally 0 people who will be negatively impacted! I implore you!
Oh my god I'm so happy! 3 weeks ago, I first tried this quiz and I got a pathetic 84. I've been working continent by continent learning every damn country - and I finally did it! It's not getting it in under 5 minutes or anything, but just to have completed it - god it's amazing!
This quiz is about UN countris+ Kosovo and Taiwan (see the list of countries that JetPunk accepts). Faroe, Greeland, Svalbard, Aruba, Tokelau and other not sovereign territories are included in other quiz.
It's really a combination of fast timing and knowing the next country you're going to type without having to look. Just keep pushing and you'll shave your time down
The hard ones for me are the Caribbean countries and the European microstates because they're so little and it's hard to memorize them all, but I have my own ways to memorize them. (Mnemonics)

The thing is, now I have to do it again, to prove that I have them in my head.
Therefore, the quiz is correct.
I am well aware that Palestine's situation is different. However, having control of your borders is one of the most important aspects of being a country, and that's something that Palestine significantly lacks.
finally got 5:47
also kuwait and georgia get me stuck every time for some reason

I still have only 190 countries more or less, the only continent I can't fully name is Africa but I've improved and I want to get them right!
Please, add Crimean peninsula to Ukraine and remove it from russia. Show some respect to Ukrainian people

as a United States citizen I'm trying to learn more about geography to have some hope in my country
What does everyone do?
