I second Istalia. It's not like Washington Monument takes up the space of two whole states or anything. Replace it with Maryland, please.

But Washington DC isn't part of Maryland. Saying it is is more incorrect than saying that Washington DC is a state.

Also, the quiz clearly states that Washington D.C. is included. I guess I could have named the quiz "Landmarks of U.S. States plus Washington D.C." but that seems a bit unwieldy.

Washington D.C is not a state it is combination of several states known as the District of Columbia

Hopefully 'spartangrad' doesn't imply you graduated from somewhere. DC is not a combination of states. It is a unique geographic entity that is not a part of any state. The land in the district used to be part of Maryland, and the district used to also include some land across the Potomac that was part of Virginia, but that was ceded back in 1847.

DC isn't really "unique" - there are a number of countries with their capitals in "Federal Districts" or "Capital Territories." Mexico and Australia are 2 examples, but there are many more.

Ah, I didn't notice the footnote before. Sorry about that. Also, BestLoser, I looked it up and found that Washington Monument is located in Maryland state-wise. Just saying.

It is not "located in Maryland state-wise". It is in the District of Columbia. Which is not part of a state.

The first Washington Monument is in Maryland. In Baltimore. The second Washington Monument is also in Maryland, on South Mountain outside of Frederick. That might be the confusion.

I kept wanting to put the cities that some of them were in before I put the state.

Statue of Liberty is in the New Jersey side of the Upper Bay as is Ellis Island.

Liberty Island does, indeed, lie on the NJ side of the border, but it is officially an exclave of the state of New York, but wholly owned by the federal government.

Does that mean the federal government pays property tax to New York for that land? If so, good.

@Husker: The Statue of Liberty is in New York State. Liberty Island is officially part of New York, not New Jersey.

The Bean is a public outdoor sculpture. It's not even 10 years old. It isn't surprising you haven't heard of it.

The Bean is love. The Bean is life. You will come to worship and respect The Bean and take selfies in its reflection.
