Would 'sphynx' also be an acceptable spelling? That one cost me a point because that's how I've always seen it spelled.

Ummm, not quite. Lions hunt at night and sleep during the day, plus they live nowhere near the "jungle." Great song, but I never got it. Dang, that's what I get for being too literal...

Is it ambiguous? I could be wrong about this, but I don't believe that there are any other universities with that mascot in the world. If Quizmaster would have narrowed it down to the US, would you have been able to type in every university in the country in time? Certainly if you didn't know the answer already, narrowing it down to 4,000+ universities wasn't going to help you out.

The Nittany Lion is a colloquial name in central Pennsylvania for a cougar. Nowhere else in the world are cougars called Nittany Lions. So the clue is already location specific, although incredibly vague for someone who does not live near Pennsylvania.

Nittany Lions should be well known for any American who follows college sports. If anyone is complaining that the question is too US-centric, I would point out that six questions were British and only two were specific to the US.

I've never lived anywhere near Pennsylvania and knew it right away. There was quite a few sports questions on this quiz, and it didn't favor the UK or the US. Good questions.
