"Toronto FC", "NYCFC", "Real Salt Lake". Kinda strange for American teams since they use the word "soccer" and they are not a monarchy

Most American teams are named after an animal or a thing that corresponds to a mascot. Soccer is the only major sport in America where you see names like "FC," "Real," or "United" that don't naturally suggest a corresponding mascot.

Agree with bluesdjben. It's been interesting to watch Atlanta United try to figure out what it's mascot is this year (I think they settled on 'Five Stripes', which I think is rather stupid, but who am I to argue?).

not sure why I clicked this...I don't really know MLS. But when I found that I could just type random big cities in the US and still get them, I was a bit surprised. No other sports team quiz allows you to just type the city and get it. Why does this one?

If so, how did you get Red Bulls & NYCFC (as typing 'New York' doesn't work), LA Galaxy & LAFC (as typing 'Los Angeles' doesn't work), Colorado and Minnesota (both states, not cities) and New England (area encompassing multiple states)???

MLS is doing a great job in importing famous players, and the football (soccer) is improving more and more. If they start hiring a few top coaches, I can see the US winning a men's FIFA World Cup by 2034~2038. I mean, they are the best in every sport they want to be the best at. I'm brazilian BTW.

I've been following MLS for 15 years and I am impressed by their slow, steady expansion into new markets. Not sure if MLS will be a top tier league in my lifetime, but it does provide a credible alternative for good players who struggle to get minutes in Europe. Parents would be idiots to let their kids play American football given what we now know about concussions. Hopefully that will mean more top US athletes pursuing a career in the world's most popular sport.

I wish MLS would exploit the position they are in to take risks in improving the game that the European Leagues are too reluctant to employ.

Show the world what the "beautiful game" actually looks like by eliminating the diving & shirt-pulling by using in-game video review. Anybody who is spotted grabbing another player is issued a yellow card at the next stoppage of play. Any player who attempts to deceive the referee by diving, feigning injury or hamming-it up with a barrel roll after contact...yellow card at the next stoppage.

Review all PKs awarded and punish players for simulation. Have the linesmen err on the side of allowing play if there is a question of offside, and review all goals for potential offside. On TV, we always see within seconds whether the call was correct or not, almost always before play has resumed. MLS would revolutionize the game and make if FAR more "beautiful" if guys just played without all of the histrionics.

I agree with the first paragraph. But, I think that if the refs reviewed each goal and each PK, then the game could become too choppy, and the fluidity of soccer/football, one of the reasons why the game is beautiful, would be taken away. If the fourth official was calling all of the PKs, then his opinion could differ slightly from the center ref, creating an inconsistency of what is a foul and what is not. Everyone hates an inconsistent ref (or 2). If the center ref would review the footage, would the center ref blow his whistle or wait until the next stoppage of play? If he blows the whistle when it wasn't a foul, or vice versa, what happens? If the play keeps going when it shouldn't, and another controversial tackle occurs that shouldn't have happened in the first place because beforehand there was a foul, what happens? Not to mention the added time that would need to be added because of the inevitable reviewing. Good idea if it wouldn't make the game either choppy or inconsistent.

The MLS is pretty good; I don't see the problem with it. It's people playing soccer/football who happen to be from the US and Canada rather than Europe.

Definitely the MLS. The only reason WNBA can be considered a joke is Naismith’s arbitrary decision to put the basket at 10 ft. Because women are generally shorter than men, they have an unfair disadvantage. It’s like calling someone who has to use a cane a joke. Basketball was unfairly designed for men and not for all humans so calling the WNBA a joke isn’t fair at all. If anything, it’s even more incredible because of the height disadvantage. Not like this is truly comparable, but we don’t call the paralympics a joke. Why should we call the WNBA a joke?

I came back to this and got 1/24 because I remember hearing one mentioned a few years ago 200 miles from me.
Then I cheated and randomly guessed place names and got 16/24. But guessing's a waste of time if you're testing your knowledge and it is soccer so....
