I need to see Pacific Rim.

No, you don't. It's one of those movies where the sheer stupidity of the premis overshadows how cool it could have been. Sort of Spoiler: they only bother with two defences against the Kaiju, one giant robots controlled by dancing, the other, a wall that they intentionally don't defend when it's attacked, then act surprised when monsters break through.

So much hatred for a pretty darn good movie. Sad.

If by "pretty darn good" you mean "astonishingly, mind-numbingly awful", then yeah, it was pretty darn good.

The story is stupid and the plot makes no sense, but if you want to see giant robots punch monsters in the face... can't really go wrong. At least it wasn't as dumb as the Michael Bay Transformers movies...

ignore everyone but Kestrana, it was a great film. I assume you've probably seen it by now anyway. The second one is alright, nowhere near as good as the first one though.

"Ignore everyone except those who agree with me, don't want to burst that bubble I live in, after all". The problem with modern day Internet in a nutshell.

Where did you get Maine as the location of Jaws.? Everything I could find either stated the location as "a New England" town or in Massachusetts (where it was filmed). I also found that the book placed Amity on Long Island. But I found nothing about it being in Maine.

It was filmed in Martha's Vineyard, wasn't it?

Yeah, most of it was filmed on Martha's Vineyard; and Amity Island is basically a stand-in for Nantucket/Martha's Vineyard (take your pick).

It doesn't even look like Maine.

Amityville is a town on Long Island (home of the Amityville Horror), but there is no Amity there. I always figured it was set in Massachusetts. It was obviously filmed there.

"People are hunted by giant worm-like creatures in the deep desert"

My first guess was Dune. My second guess was Beetlejuice. Tremors was my third guess. There seem to be a lot of movies with giant worms in desert wastelands to choose from.

Trivia for us oldsters - James Arness (Matt Dillon from Gunsmoke) played the alien creature in the 1951 version of The Thing (From Another World). I read an interview given by his brother, Peter Graves (of Mission Impossible) and he laughed about working so hard to advance his career in Hollywood and then his brother comes to Hollywood and makes it big playing a vegetable. That original version of The Thing was one of the scariest movies I saw as a kid. It gave me nightmares.

Troll Hunter's great, if you don't mind foreign language movies with subtitles.
