Tommy Callahan should be acceptable also. Chris Farley as Tommy Callahan in Tommy Boy. Only thing I could think of for it, lol.

Tricky. Which one is more famous may vary from generation to generation. Though, as someone who has seen Tommy Boy but never seen any of the Dirty Harry films, I came up with Harry Callahan, and I never in a million years would have been able to tell you Tommy's last name.

David should be accepted for Gale. The name is even included in the title (The life of David Gale).

Whether it was crap or not, I'm pretty comfortable saying that it's not nearly as famous as The Wizard of Oz.

I thought of Joan Wilder from Romancing the Stone - never heard of Van. "Most famous" is subjective, and probably varies by both age and gender.

That was a TV miniseries, not a movie.

It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but does anyone ever actually call him JUST "Van"? I had always assumed that van Wilder was his surname and that everyone just used that to address him...maybe I'm just biased...

Update: Nope, his father's character is "Vance Wilder" so I was entirely incorrect.

Suprised Dorothy was so low, I guess people don't know her by her last name (although it's easy to remember since a gale and a tornado are both wind based).

If it'd been match these character by first name to the movie they are from, I would have gotten it in an instant. As it is, I don't even recall the character's surname being mentioned, but it has been a while.

It does say "choose the more famous one," and Leia is definitely the more well-known Organa.

If you're going to insist on "Daniel" for Danny Ocean, then you should also insist on "Johannes" for Hans Gruber.
