Tricky tricky - using Fargo for Minnesota is just plain cruel. Yes, a very large portion of the action takes place there, but the memorable climax involving the wood chipper and the reason behind the film's title most definitely are in North Dakota. If you're looking for a less controversial clue, you could use the Mighty Ducks or Grumpy Old Men.

Not if you're a Fargo fan. The Mighty Ducks [of Anaheim] is cruel clue for Minnesota now.

Good quiz. Time limit is a little tight. I got 28 before the timer ran out. Some overlap with my Books by State quiz. I wish I could add the little state abbreviations boxes on the right that would make it easier.

I do wish all state quizzes allowed two-letter postal abbreviations and shorter time limits. It would be more efficient for all parties.

This is pretty much impossible to finish without memorising the answers. I guess if you had too much time though, you could just go through each answers with each state until you got them all.

Though the city in the story is definitely Wilmington, DE, I'm sure they never reveal that in the movie Fight Club. They even say in the DVD commentary they were trying to avoid lawsuits. And the skyline they blow up at the end is not from any city, it's actually a collection of buildings owned by the film studio, digitally inserted into the same scene.

Wrong. The story stand by me is based on ( the body ) is set in the fictional Maine town of Castle Rock where a lot of kings stories are set.

No, I am correct. The movie Stand By Me is most definitely set in, and filmed in, Oregon.

His movies are almost always made in Maine, so it's odd that one with an actually basis in his childhood was set elsewhere.

You can even spot my house in Thinner and me and my car in Man Without A Face, which isn't Stephen King, but the production crew roped me in.

The Shawshank Redemption was filmed in and around the city of Mansfield, Ohio, located in north-central Ohio. The prison featured in the film is the old Ohio State Reformatory immediately north of downtown Mansfield

Yet they mention getting transferred from Thomaston, the Maine State Prison built in the 1820s and used until about 20 years ago. Also they go into flop houses in Portland and Andy buries the money in Buxton.

The fact that it's Stephen King really hints to the fact that it's Maine. All but a few of his books are set in Maine.

Where is it ever stated in the movie that Fight Club takes place in Delaware? The city in the movie looks way too big to be Wilmington.

See my comment above. The city's skyline is not a real skyline of any city it's a digital composite. But it's definitely intended to be Wilmington as this is where almost all American credit card companies are headquartered.

Upon taking this quiz, I realized more fully how some films really provide a sense of place, while others could be set anywhere (although at some point they may casually toss off the name of a place where they are supposedly set).

This is not only a great idea for a quiz, but it is also well-researched, beautifully symmetrical and pleasingly complete.

It also happens to be very difficult, especially for a UK dwelling non-movie buff.

I'm not in favor of allowing the US postal code abbreviations to be general type-ins on this site, but this quiz has a legend which specifically refers to each state by the 2-letter postal code. Surely, in this case, the postal code would be enough? What is the argument against allowing it?
