Ganymede was a cupbearer of the Gods. Zeus kidnapped him and brought him to Olympus because of his beauty (Hera was none too pleased x3)

shouldn't helios be accepted for god of light?
+1
level 51
Apr 14, 2012
Possibly. He was the personification of the sun. But then we get into the whole argument of "god versus titan" and what should be accepted and-- Apollo was actually called "Apollo Helios" because he was so closely associated with the sun; much the same way his twin sister Artemis was considered to be the same as Selene, Goddess of the Moon. /derp tl;dr

helios was the original god of the sun, i beleive both answers should be accepted

Helios is the personification of the sun, as previously stated by darkseraphim. Helios is not a god, however. He is classified by both Homer and Ovid as a Titan. Think of Helios the same way that we view Cronus/Kronos. Kronos is Father Time, or the personification of time in Greek mythology, yet he is not a god. He is a Titan. Apollo has always been described as the god of light, and Helios is the Titan personified as the sun.

No because Helios was a titan and Apollo was a god and the it said god of light not titan of light.... which could also apply to Hyperion.

Hm....is there any leeway on spelling for Heracles? I tried Hericles and Herecles, then started trying French spellings because I was desperate. I don't know why I didn't think to use an "a" though. Also, I suppose "Faun" wouldn't work for Faunus because faun is a general name for the half goat/half man creatures? Or is that not the case? When "faun" didn't work, I tried "Mr. Tumnus"...

Thank you, D'Aulaires' Book of Greek myths. No thank you, Percy Jackson, which looking back on it is unoriginal, heavily influenced by the Harry Potter books, and poorly written, not to mention often used cookie-cutter plots that far oversimplified the actual myths, which were once full of intrigue, mystery, and anti-heroes in their dozens. You've ruined Greek mythos for millions of people, and they'll never understand the true depth of the subject. Rick Riordan, you are evil in its purest form.

They were never meant to be adaptations of the myths, just CHILDREN'S books written for CHILDREN set in a world where the myths were all real. Of course they simplified things! The original stories contain a lot of gruesome murder, violence and sex! They got millions of kids, including many people who took this quiz judging by the comments, into learning more about Greek mythology. And most importantly, they got millions of kids into reading, because they were funny, engaging to younger readers, and inspired further learning. You sound like a snob who hates that they aren't special anymore for knowing this stuff, and you could really use some series self-reflection on why you rely on knowing things others don't to feel good about yourself.

Please change the clue for Demeter/Ceres. She is the goddess of fertility of the earth, not people... so please be more specific or change the clue to goddess of agriculture. Eileithyia/Ilithyia is the Greek goddess of PEOPLE fertility, and Lucina is her Roman name. Otherwise, fun quiz! 100%, so easy for me! I read so many mythology books.
