I got 18 and I've never been within 500 miles of New Orleans. I have watched the HBO series Treme, which is excellent and really added to my knowledge.
The shrimp poboy is my least favorite type. I prefer the pork. Have to kick myself for missing NOLA; 50 years removed from Louisiana, but at least I should have remembered from a restaurant in Los Angeles named NOLA.
I did my undergrad in New Orleans, so I know the place really well. You need to accept Vieux Carré as an alternate for the French Quarter. I didn't miss that one, but it's what a real New Orleanian might say, and they are interchangeable correct terms for that part of the city.
Both are correct, but locals generally use 'Vieux Carre' in the names of groups or associations or historical references. 'French Quarter' is what we usually call it.
It says Vieux Carre on the interstate exit signs, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone call it that in conversation. Calling it the French Quarter is much more common. I've only ever heard Vieux Carre in the context of historic preservation.
