O Canada Our home and native land. True patriot love in all thy sons command. With loyal hearts we sing the praise of the true North strong and free. We stand on guard O Canada We stand on guard for Thee

O Canada, glorious and free

We stand on guard We stand on guard for thee

O Canada we stand on guard for thee.

They revised it 25 years ago and I still got 7. Not bad for an old Yankee.

I could swear the NHL anthem version says "our sons." Didn't even know the new words, just guessed them.
+2
Level 81
Jul 1, 2022
The official version used to be "all thy sons" but was changed about 5 years ago to "all of us."

Not entirely sure how the NHL version reads (although I'd be a bit surprised to hear they had a separate version?). At any rate I would assume they would have changed it fairly shortly thereafter to reflect the official change.

I almost aced this one thanks to Rush with Terrance and Phillip on the South Park movie. I didn't know that the "all thy sons" line had recently been changed. Political correctness is pure insanity. I guess time will tell if the Star Spangled Banner in the US will be edited, changed, or just banned outright as hate speech.

Not sure why the government changed in all thy son's command to "in all of us command" instead of in all of our command.

But then again we're unfortunately led by someone who thinks people should say "peoplekind" instead of mankind when the "man" in mankind refers to humans not men.

O Canada! Where pines and maples grow,

Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow,

How dear to us thy broad domain,

From East to Western sea!

Thou land of hope for all who toil!

Thou True North, strong and free!

(Refrain)

O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies

May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise,

To keep thee steadfast through the years

From East to Western sea,

Our own beloved native land,

Our True North, strong and free!

(Refrain)

Ruler Supreme, Who hearest humble prayer,

Hold our dominion within Thy loving care.

Help us to find, O God, in Thee

A lasting, rich reward,

As waiting for the Better Day,

We ever stand on guard.

(Refrain)
