recoil for bullet bounce?

Level 74
Dec 10, 2014
I'm not a gun fan, but isn't the recoil the kick of the gun as the bullet is fired, while the ricochet is the bullet bouncing off something (usually a rock close to a cowboy's head, in my only experience).

Agreed. I have no patience for the whole "too US-centric" crowd, so it's only right to have equally low patience for the "you need to specify this is British" crowd. And for the same reason.

^ a rugzak is used in many countries, not just the UK.

Taking another look, I think the difficulty was perhaps a little too high. I replaced three of the answers with easier ones, so maybe it will be a little more fun now.

Still my worst one of the series. I missed 8! Of which had never heard of rasher or rustler and I stupidly couldnt think of rival. But the other answers I have heard of but don't think I would ve guessed even with more time.

This was a good quiz. All worth remembering.

It's the usual bazaar of gripes and jokes here.

This is the only place I can sharpen my mind meaningfully while minimally depleting my battery.

Also, Rocker WW&H - anybody remember Giles?

He would have aced these.

I'm American and I've heard rasher of bacon, but as I often say, I'm old. I haven't seen it on a breakfast menu here in years.

I'm American and young (mid 20's), and I've definitely heard rasher of bacon. I'm in the Midwest, so maybe that makes a difference.
+1
Level 72
Jul 30, 2019
For some reason I always thought a rasher of bacon was what you would buy at a store, like a packaged amount of bacon instead of just a single strip. I also see it as a British word and I'm not American so I disagree with the everywhere but America thing.

I think there are too many answers that are "close enough" on that one. Should probably just use a different vocab word. How about rochambeau?

I am American. I have heard of a rasher of bacon, although I thought it referred to a serving size, not an individual strip. Further investigation revealed that it can also refer to a small serving of 3-4 strips of bacon.
+1
Level 55
Oct 15, 2015
I was thinking it was the 3-4 slices of bacon too. I've seen it on breakfast menus, and I'm pretty sure no restaurants serve just one piece of bacon as a side, or people wouldn't go there anymore.

"Rag" won't work by itself? If there's reasons, I understand. I put rag several times, then gave up and starting guessing ridiculous ones like reggae, rap, and rock...

+1
Level 67

Is it just me, or is rhomboid an acceptable answer as well as rhombus?
+1

A rhombus is to a rhomboid, as a square is to a rectangle. That is, rhomboids have different lengths on adjacent sides.

What about "refute" for countering an argument?
+1
Level 37
Jul 28, 2019
In a debate, the proper term is rebut(tal), not refute. I believe that refute is more commonly used to counter an accusation against someone.

Apr 27, 2018
He will (and won't Accept) because retort is not applicable to debate and court useage. Retort is not thought out or part of a legal argument but a fast reaction repost. Can be used in debates but not often.

Re-tort would be a whole new court case wouldn't it?

Resin is not sap, as another comment said: resin is *sometimes* the byproduct of sap (maple syrup and maple sugar aren't sap, either -- exactly the same thing).

Though as I think about it, what I think you meant is "rosin," which is the solid reduced from tree sap.
