Great quiz. I missed 3 in Africa. I thought Canberra would be on here but it turns out its only about 110km inland.

150 km actually, but still not far enough to make this quiz.

I make it 105 km to the mouth of the Clyde River at Bateman's Bay.

Same. That's the only I missed. I even tried Lagos, even though I know it's right by the water.

I forgot South Africa had more than one capital, so I forgot Pretoria. I tried Cape Town even though, as its name suggests, it's by the ocean...

I mean That's actually a reasonable request (Ullan Bataar) because Ulaanbaatar is the normal spelling, sometimes with 2 as at the end or 1 a in either of the spots, it can be spelled as anything like this: Ulaanbaatar, Ulaan Baatar, Ulaanbaator, Ulaan Baator, Ulaanbator, Ulaan Bator, Ulanbaatar, Ulan Baatar

Ulanbaator, Ulan Baator, Ulanbator, Ulan Bator. So I think adding an extra l isn't so unreasonable as adding an extra l to dheli or s to brasilia. (brasilia not brasalia).

ah, i went for La Paz instead of Sucre

It is the capital in all but name. The parliament, government and central administration are all in La Paz. Only the Supreme Court is in La Paz.

You might want to edit that. I assume you mean Sucre in the second sentence.

We consider them both the capital, not just sucre. It's just that Sucre is further in than La Paz, which is near the border.

Those are all near misses, with distances in the 180-190 km range, from the Gulf of Guinea, Mozambique, Thailand and the Black Sea respectively.

Sucks to miss both countries that (technically) have multiple capitals because you guessed the wrong one. Oh, well. Next time.

I had the same thoughts previously and next time was correct. I got the South American one this time. Still no luck on the African one.

In my head Tehran was much deeper inside Iran than it actually is (less than 100 km from the Caspian coast). Was surprised Ankara didn't make it, but I see it's a near miss.

It had been called Astana, then switched to Nur-Sultan, but on September 17th of this year it was changed back to Astana. Fun fact: Astana means capital city in Kazakh.

Saying that Cape Town is "near" to a body of water, while technically true, feels like a bit of an understatement!

From Ankara's city center it is 195 km away from the nearest coast. I don't know the methodology used but i think it should be added.

I used Google Earth's circle tool to measure the distance. After rechecking with Google Maps' distance tool, I get a distance of 186 km to the sea near Alapli, Zonguldak Province.

"Windhoek" actually translates as "Capital city with the greatest distance from the country's borders, the sea, or international lake" in Namibian.
