Maestro for teacher?

Yep - that should definitely be acceptable, as should "estilista" for hairdresser.

I got 0. When you get 0, it doesn't even count as having taken the quiz.

My measly 6 got me one point. Embarrassed at all the ones I forgot from taking Spanish all those years ago.

What about "contable" for accountant?

Absolutely agree, in fact at least in Spain it's not named "contador" but contable, doesn't exist. I suppose they use it in LatAm.

Yes, in LatAm we use contador, "contable" is very strange for us.

"Autor" should be accepted for "writer"
+2
Level 71
Jun 6, 2022
Not really, "autor" is too generic. It could be for music, writing, painting. "Escritor" is more accurate.

"Estilista" for hairdresser, please

Spanish has a femenine form for each of these words. It'd be nice if Jetpunk recognized women can and do all those jobs by allowing the femenine form of all occupations.

Pretty sure we do.

Perhaps this comment was getting to the fact that all of the forms actually displayed as answers are the masculine form. I am personally glad there's consistency instead of certain words like teacher, nurse, and hairdresser being shown as feminine.

"Doctor" has the same problem as in english, where it is used for medics in common parlance but is incorrect, as there are many other types of doctors.

Meaning "doctor" translates as "doctor". The usage, right or wrong, is the same. "Médico" would be the translation for "medic" or "physician".
