I don't follow football and I only knew four for definite but I got 19/19 as I knew only 8 countries have ever won the world cup, England only once and Uruguay only twice, so it was pretty easy to guess the rest!

Soccer is a word for 'association football' originating in England. I don't get why people (especially the English) get so cross about it.

Considering it's the most well known and common form of FOOTBALL then yes it's understandable that most around the world call it that - even in Spanish-speaking countries, they call it "futbol" lool

Soccer's not my thing, but I do love the World Cup. I ended up guessing 100% but I really only knew about 5 for sure. The 1966 WC in England I remember because it was 900 years after the Battle of Hastings...weird...but that's how I remember it.

Spain's victory in 2010 broke the (almost) infallible rule: "The World Cup is always won by Brazil, Italy, Argentina, Germany or the host." Only spoilt by Uruguay in 1950 (which was before Argentina got as good as they did).

in the middle there is also some symmetry around the italy 1982 win. going forward and backwards from there it is argentina 1986/1978, (west) germany 1990/1974, brazil 1994/1970, host 1998/1966, brazil 2002/1962

All you need to remember to get 100% is:

- Most are Brazil, Germany or Italy

- England and France won once each, both on home turf

- Uruguay won the first World Cup

- At some point Uruguay won another, Argentina won two and Spain won one (which should be reasonably fresh in people's memories).

As long as you've got that down, there's plenty of time to sort it all out.

Interesting to see that European countries won nine world cups in Europe, and none in Latin America, while Latin American countries won six cups in Latin America, and only two in Europe. If you also consider that six countries won in their own country, playing hone seems like a huge advantage.

huh... actually managed to get them all with almost 3 minutes left with barely knowing any of the answers.

Started with the ones I knew... 2022, 1966, 1930.

Then went through and guessed host countries for all except the ones I knew had never won a World Cup.

Then went one-by-one guessing Brazil for everything. Then Germany for everything left. Then Italy, Argentina, France, Spain... then only had one left. Guessed Uruguay since I knew they used to be good in South America. That was it.
