Just a quick correction: pterodactyls are not classified as dinosaurs.

Another correction, Pterodactyls is more of a nickname. No actual species is called Pterodactyl.

What about Thermoman?

Level 94

"Moth" should also work for the caterpillar question.

A satellite is not necessarily man-made. The moon is a natural satellite, the orbiting another celestial body is key.
+4
Level 66
Mar 8, 2022
But if it is a man-made machine orbiting the earth, then it is a satellite, after all, is it not?
+2
Level 59

A square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not (always) a square.
+10
Level 83
Apr 7, 2020
Who wants to discuss what "flying" means on physical grounds!
+6
Level 79
Apr 7, 2020
Yeah, there is a difference between flying and floating.
+14
Level 85
Apr 7, 2020
And things don't really "fly" in space. There is no air.
+30
Level 44
Apr 26, 2020
They are just falling in style

Level 54

+3
Level 66
Jan 9, 2023
Yeah dragons, griffins, and fairy's etc. can't fly on a physical ground because they don't physically exist!
+11
Level 86
Apr 10, 2020
I don't really have a problem if ballons, zeppelins and blimps are said to be flying, though stricly speaking, flying relies on the aerodynamic balance between gravity and lift, and not on density. Comets and satellites clearly don't fly though, they are in free motion in the void. Satellites in low earth orbit undergo a bit of friction from the outer layer of the atmosphere but I wouldn't call that flying...
+7
Level 75
Apr 26, 2020
Things that fly. Don't be silly, everyone knows what it means.
+3
Level 75
Apr 26, 2020
If we accept that a satellite or a comet "fly", then any object with mass can do it, too (a rock, animal, a table, a person...)
+8
Level 43
Apr 26, 2020
We don't need to nitpick this. Some might be a stretch but everyone knows exactly why all of these are here.
+4
Level 66
Jan 9, 2023
"Things That Can Levitate or Be in Motion Through the Air or in the Void in a Way That is Not Necessarily Always Technically Accurately Called Flying" would be a bit of a tongue-twister for the title, so I think it's fin as is.

@Alex by the time you took the quiz, the original clue had been changed, thanks to the mammal lobby :) I'd also like to tip my hat to flying rats who are, for the record, pigeons.

Level 66

A satellite is not a machine, moons are satelites. The things orbiting the earth for images and gps etc are manmade satellite.Satelite simply means something that stays nearby/hangs around something else. You could say a follower

Or is the quizmaster of the persuasion that moons are actually hollow machines used to spy on us? ;)

I always thought hummingbirds were the fastest birds. After looking it up I learned they are the fastest according to length traveled per body length but at 40 mph they are nowhere near the fastest bird. Another "fact" taught to me in grade school shot down. However, one fact that I think still holds is that bats are not rodents. As tripdoc said, they are in their own order.

More to the point, why do twice as many people know about Dumbo as know about pterodactyls? (I wasn't one)

Peterradacoryile can be difficult to spell for some.

I was one that couldn’t spell. I believe I spelled it pteradactyl. Apparently that isn’t close enough.

Pterodactyls were not lizards - they were reptiles.

Could you add phoenix for dragon? It's true as well. I kept guessing thinking that it was some synonym of phoenix.
+1
Level 70
Apr 27, 2020
phoenixes don't breathe fire, however they are born from fire and can't be harmed by it.
+3
Level 75
Apr 26, 2020
Accept airship for blimp? Also as many other have suggested, satellites are not strictly man-made. Love your quizzes, keep up the good work :)

Is Tinker Bell a fairy or a pixie?

Yes.

Mar 18, 2023
In the original book, she's a fairy.

Level 75
Apr 26, 2020
Nice quiz. There's an argument that comets don't fly, but float or coast. Gravity and all that.
+2
Level 41
Apr 27, 2020
Tinker Bell uses “pixie dust” not “fairy dust”. It logically follows that she’s a pixie.

I agree with @Lagge on the airship request too.

Satellites do not fly?
+1
Level 59
Mar 18, 2023
True. . .There is no gravity in space; they float in orbit around a larger body.

However, it's the thought that counts. lol
