Well, it looks like I was right. Go Team USA! :) But France still did a pretty good job, so congrats. And you get to look forward to hosting the Summer Olympics in 2 years!
Great quiz! My sincerest apologies for accidentally copying this. I looked in the recent user created section, but no where else which was a big mistake of mine. I've deleted my quiz now. Perhaps you could link my IOC standard version to this quiz, for those who would prefer it sorted that way?
Because I really like your attitude and want to promote it, I accept to link your IOC version here (by the way, thanks for having done the same for my quiz under yours). I agree that it can be a good complement.
As usual, the medals table totally dominated by India, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Nigeria... would be much more interesting and meaningful to see this per capita so that we didn't always see the same populous countries at the top of the rankings.
They're not? I guess maybe I rushed to leave a comment confirming my own biases without even thinking about the actual facts or data and whether or not they supported my pre-judged conclusion. Boy do I have egg on my face.
Honestly, in my opinion, both this kind of ranking and the one used by IOC aren't truly "right". I would use a system where one gold medal would correspond to three points, two for silver and one for bronze, or something like it. With the one used in this quiz, we don't take in consideration beteween a gold or a bronze medal, but in the IOC one, the silver and bronze medals aren't valued enough.
But for this quiz, I logically used the kind of ranking generally used on JetPunk, which bruings in a quick look an idea of the results of the Olympics.
Darn. The only one I missed was Netherlands and I thought I had already typed it. Not bad for not having watched a single event. It's always the same countries. The Olympics is ridiculous thing anymore. It used to be about being about to bring the athletes of the world together without politics but politics is being injected so end it - it's purpose is over.
At the Winter Olympics this is somewhat, but not very, unusual. The US almost always finishes on top at the Summer Games. They always do well at the Winter ones, too, but they don't dominate there in the same way. Canada has always excelled here.
Why is that good? Why is any ranking better than any other? The Russians that cheated should not be permitted to compete. Otherwise, we're talking about people who have dedicated their whole lives to these sports. It's fun to root for your home country, but I don't understand why people root against other countries. Shouldn't matter whether they're American or German or what. We should applaud the people who worked hard enough to win gold.
yeah I don't personally see how it's a good thing or a bad thing. It's just a thing. Canada is better at winter sports than summer ones. And the US: vice versa.

How have so many people gotten Slovenia?
Anyway, speaking of cheating, here's my quiz on Olympic cheats:

Yes, "Russia" works as an answer. Possibly more than once.
