I called it the East Sea so that it wouldn't be too obvious who borders it

I got it right even w/o being familiar with it. My strategy was simply to start name dropping countries large enough to have a sea that I have not heard of. India was a natural shot in the dark.

Laccadive is a subgroup of Lakshadweep Islands administered by India. So, the sea was named after it.

Yep. I learned Maldives and Laccadives as two island groups in that area, and because of thebsimilarity of the names, it stuck.

I used insane moon logic: "mal-" is a prefix meaning "bad", e.g. "malodorous", "malcontent", "malnourished". So the Maldives are a country where the dives are bad (even though there's sea everywhere that looks perfect for diving). Since they're bad, there must be a lack o' dives.

China was my first guess, thinking of the East China Sea (Donghai, the local name for the sea, in Chinese literally translates to "east sea"). When it was wrong, I guessed Japan, and it accepted it. I guess the quiz refers to a different East Sea than I know. But, perhaps this should be changed as there are evidently various "East Sea"s.

What we call the South China Sea is called the East Sea by Vietnam. Calling it the South China Sea when it is the sea directly off the east coast of Vietnam has political connotations which the Vietnamese find pretty offensive.

Most people consider it a part of the Caribbean region, but, strictly speaking, it does not border the official Caribbean Sea, which is between Cuba, Hispaniola, and the Lesser Antilles, and South and Central America. The Bahamas are on the other side of Cuba, so they don't have a shoreline on the official sea, thanks though!

Thanks for bringing this up! The Caribbean Sea doesn't actually extend as far as people think sometimes, it's only the section of ocean south of the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico) and west of the Lesser Antilles (the chain of islands stretching from the Virgin Islands to Trinidad). This is why places like Bermuda, the Bahamas, and Florida, while they may seem like Caribbean places, don't actually touch the Caribbean Sea. Now there are U.S. Territories that do touch the Caribbean, such as the U.S. Virgin Islands, the southern coast of Puerto Rico, and various islands disputed with Colombia, but there is a caveat included in this quiz and a lot of quizzes like it that Territories don't count, since then you could just type "UK" and "France" for all the questions and you'd get half the answers.
