Got them all! Easy. I remember seeing something about you planting trees on the site before. Learned about rods and cones in Psychology 101, I think. And I used to live in that country where people are legitimately afraid of "fan death." That helped me get the most obscure answers.

South Korea is one of the best educated populations in the world. That something so ludicrous as the myth about fans persists there says something truly astounding about human nature (although, I confess, I am not sure exactly what).

I don't think the myth regards drowning. It's cramping. Either way, it's not true.

Only missed marlon brando and the president, I guess I did pay attention ( or knew some allready).

12 is a very very low average score imo, especially since most of these can be just guessed by thinking logically (not the president and name for male bees for and brando and the eye one, but you can work out (nearly) all the others)

like there arent many countries that needs two dashes. And what animal has a single horn that looks like the horn of a narwhal. What fruit is often said in one breath with lemons etc.

Funny, because Marlon Brando was quite easy, too, seeing it was one of his most famous roles (and considering the length of the two dashes). The name for male bees should really be common knowledge, so that was a gimme.

On the other hand, when it asked where the "tusk" (not the "horn") is believed to have come from, I first tried elephants, so not so straight forward. And with the fan question, I didn't realize it was asking for a country. I tried "urban myths", even "psycho analysis". Couldn't think of anything else.

I was surprised, too, how often the full plural form has to be put in. But then, I guess the facts must have been taken over from the source unaltered, so you just have to put up with it.

Common sense really. The fan can't sneak up on you and strangle you to death while your eyes are open.

Its not really about sleep, 선풍기 사망설 is the belief that if you stay in a room too long, it will suck all the oxygen out and kill you, which you cannot control if you are asleep, while just as ridiculous, it is a little more complicated than it just killing you while you are asleep.

Why is India and acceptable answer for the one time zone country question when the answer is china?
+1
Level 81
Feb 12, 2024
Because India also has only one time zone.

It's "only" about 29° of longitude east-to-west instead of about 61° for China, so the "three hours earlier" part is slightly debatable, but it's still a generally plausible answer - enough so that it is accepted as a type-in.

(And actually, since one ideal time zone is 360/24 = 15° of longitude, then the "three hours" is equally debatable for both countries, just in opposite directions. In India it's a 2-hour difference, in China it's a 4-hour difference. Depending, of course, on time time of year; 3-dimensional geometry makes simple answers awkward. Another reason why India is a plausible answer.)
