Quizmaster included the dumbest poem i've ever heard. "This is Just to Say" looks and sounds like it was written by an 8 year old. And of course because i ridicule it so much, i was one of the few who got it. Never thought it would come in handy.
I think it's a beautiful poem, and, honestly, if what angers you is that it could have been written by a child I think you missed the point of the poem.
Joseph's poem was the inspiration for the formation of the Red Hat Society. “When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple, with a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me." On behalf of all the women on this site who are growing older on our own terms, thank you for including it.
I can't remember who pointed out to me that Dickinson's 'Could not Stop for Death' is in Iambic Tetrameter, or Long meter doubled, and so can be sung to the tune of Gilligan's Island, but now I can't read it to any other cadence. And now I pass the curse on to you all :).
Other things that also work: Amazing Grace, O Little Town of Bethlehem, House of the Rising Sun, America the Beautiful, Casey at the Bat, and the Pokémon theme song. Go on, try them all to the tune of Gilligan's Island. Then try to stop yourself from doing that every other time you hear them.
For the ones that I didn't know off the top of my head, I just reached up to my handy-dandy, giant, stuffed, bookshelf, and then I read the poems. I love my books.
Things fall apart/nothing breaks like a heart.
