Omg. I actually confused Tamerlane for Talleyrand there and said to myself: "Oh yeah, that's the french minister, not an italian." :-D Still got the correct answer though.
I watched a video that had an interesting theory that Columbus was a Portuguese nobleman... Wikipedia also gives multiple other theories for his origins. I'm not saying the question should necessarily be changed because the Genoa theory is still the most common, but it's just worth noting that his origins haven't been confirmed.
Didn't opera exist in China for a long time before it did in Italy? Not that my knowledge of Chinese history is brilliant, but the all-knowing Wikipedia seems to think Chinese opera started at least 1700 years ago. Different kind of opera though maybe?
Different question. Parent poster is asking about the "which of these was not invented in Italy?" question. For which, arguably, Opera is a valid correct answer.
it didn't say first invented, it said invented. Things can be invented at different times in different places, so long as one doesn't influence the other
But it's true, Tesla did invent the radio, you can check his life, there are lots of videos, web-articles or books on Tesla. He invented it in 1891 before Marconi in 1895
But this story of "invented before", is the cause of many people still believe that the Wright Brothers are the creators of the airplane, while Santos Dumont is actually. Not saying for being patriotic, but actually, the Wright Brothers's one, flied by some seconds with the help of a catapult, not actually the airplane itself, which is the case of Dumont.
But regarding Tesla VS Marconi I'm no idea. I believe Marconi created the radio, while Tesla contributed for the eletrical part, mainly with Tesla Coil and wireless lighting.
Unlike the Tesla fan club, I do not dispute that Marconi was the inventor of the 'radio' (as we understand the term) - and clearly Marconi was Italian. However, it is debatable that this happened 'in Italy'. Some of the early experiments were done there, but the real development into what we would recognise as radio actually happened in the UK.
Perhaps the question should read 'Which of these things wasn't invented by an Italian?'
That's what led me to answer that question wrongly as well. There's no doubt that radio was invented by an Italian, but I'm pretty sure he invented it while he was living abroad, and thus it wasn't invented in Italy.
There was a fashion show at La Scala in 2019, probably had been at least a couple prior to that. I chose the obvious answer, but two answers are technically correct, or, more likely three, since ostensibly, there have at least been a few productions that contained poetry that were performed there. I think it'd be wise to alter the options or reword the question.
The radio was invented by William Henry Ward of the USA. AM Radio was invented (disputed) either by Popov or Marconi. Marconi, an Italian, was living in Britain during the time he worked on the technology. So, with a high degree of certainty, the radio was not "invented in Italy."
The problem with that is that it all depends on how narrowly you define an invention, and if you suit it to your needs, you can claim basically anything was invented in China. There are claims that the printing press was invented in China, despite the Chinese examples working in a wildly different way to Gütenberg's invention. But then when it comes to paper being invented by the Chinese, you have to narrow it right back down again, because otherwise the Egyptians get it for inventing papyrus.
Let's be honest. This is all just errant pedantry. The obvious correct answer is the movie camera. There is no Italian claim to the invention of the movie camera.
