If you do that, then you need to accept Indian Ocean for Oman-India, Yemen-Somalia, and Saudi Arabia-Iran, at a minimum.

There are other quizzes on the site that claim Israel borders the Atlantic and Indian Oceans... because it touched the Red and Mediterranean Seas. If you don't get the joke you don't need to comment.

Couldn't find the English name for the sea between France and Britain... as a French, I felt ashame for not knowing it but then I saw "ENGLISH Channel"!!! Sacrebleu! What the hell? We're not calling it French Channel here, and even less English Channel... Damn Rosbifs!

The English Channel isn't actually a channel, so La Manche is at least as correct. Then again, it's been named both ways for centuries and the quiz already gives you the "Channel" part.

The British naval control over the channel would eventually result in the British Empire and the spread of the English language across the globe. Also, the English Channel has pretty much unprecedented importance in repelling invasions of Britain for centuries, including both World Wars. Plus the D Day landings were somewhat pivotal in WW2.

It is usual to call the body of water after the country or island that separates it from the mainland, UK does not worry about the 'Irish Sea' being called the 'Irish Sea' it is only the French and jealous Europeans that find fault with the 'English Channel'.....

The South China Sea does not separate China and the Philippines. Look at a map and you will see that it lies between Vietnam and the Philippines, and is bordered by Malaysia in the south. In Vietnam this sea is call the East Sea(Bien Dong), as it lies off the eastern coast of Vietnam. Calling it the South China Sea implies that Vietnam is somehow a part of southern China. This is offensive to the Vietnamese and is a classic case of imperialism and power determining the naming of places.

"Calling it the South China Sea implies that Vietnam is somehow part of southern China ". It does nothing of the sort. It's just the name of the sea in English - it's describing the sea's position relative to China.

Your comments sounds pretty reasonable to me. Either they aren't aware of China's policies around the sea, or they just think you should accept it quietly and meekly. Odd.

well you could travel over water from france via the gulf of biscay ( in a straight line). Plus i am pretty sure there are several more countries on here that are also allready touching, at some ppoints.. Nowhere it state that the countries are seperated ( completely..) by water.
+1
Level 76
May 20, 2019
Maybe not, but I think the body of water would at least have to be the main boundary between two countries. So, the border between France - Spain, for me, would also be the Pyrenees, rather than the Atlantic.
+2
Level 72
Feb 27, 2020
But since this is a quiz about "Boundary Waters" it's fairly obvious they aren't talking about the Pyrenees mountains. Seems clear to me that that are talking about the water that lies between them.
