This was quite confusing. One doesn't typically associate hot, arid desert countries with tropical countries since to most, tropical means hot, humid, green/jungle all over, not hot, dry and arid/desert. Even the koppen climate classification doesn't call hot deserts in the geographical tropics by any kind of "tropical" term.

The Tropics are defined as the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn where the sun can shine directly overhead at some point during the year. It has nothing to do with greenery.

I added this to the quiz description in case other people were confused

Well you have tropical and the tropics. It is not the same thing, though of course there is a relation

What about Australia? How do they have less area in the tropics than Saudi Arabia. If you look on a map of Australia and you see the city of Rockhampton in Queensland, the tropics start just a little before it.

Australia has less % of the country in the tropics than Saudi Arabia, but over twice the square km area at 2.89 mil km2 to 1.07 mil km2.

You could get exact figures of how much % of their land is in the tropics since you have exact numbers of how much total land they have in the tropics
