Then that list is surely either incomplete or incorrect. Seagull is not just a valid word - it's a common word. Given that quizmaster is a competitive Scrabble player, I'd love to know what the deal is.

Seagull isn't a word. It's just a common error. All types of gulls, none of them are called 'seagulls' https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/wildlife-guides/bird-a-z/gulls-and-terns/

Well done Quizmaster for not accepting it!

Odd not to allow Macbeth for the Shakespeare question as the clue doesn't say proper nouns are excluded, but I guess it's not in the dictionary.

Yes ... please make it clear that "Macbeth" cannot be accepted for the Shakespeare title with an "M" word in it ...perhaps it should read "M"-word that is NOT a proper noun" ?

And when I read the clue about "Spanish loan word",

I immediately tried to think of any word related to getting a financial loan ... not Spanish words used in the English language.

So could there perhaps be a more clear way of wording this question/clue ? Thanks

The description clearly states that only Scrabble words are accepted. Macbeth being a proper noun is not the reason that it is left out. It is left out because it is not an official Scrabble word. Also, I believe the definition of "loan word" is fairly wide-spread. I don't think we need a long-winded description to accommodate the 5% who don't know what it means and can't figure it out.

No. This has been suggested.

D = 500, I = 1, M = 1000.

500 + (1000 - 1) = 1499

However, as said above, 1499 would be MCDXCIX. If anything, it would be MID, not DIM.
