That was a good quiz. Nice work alberici! Kicking myself for forgetting Robespierre.

I took this quiz at a terrible time. My thoughts and prayers are with the French. I wish I could be there and help in some way.

"City of Love", anyone? No? OK. Seriously though, I've never heard of "City of Light".

neither did I as a French, but apparently it is what Paris is known as in USA

Oh, quand même, "la Ville Lumière" ! Ce n'est pas employé à tout bout de champs, mais on l'entend tout de même régulièrement.

"Triumph" is acceptable but "Triomphe" (the spelling in the answer) isn't? I stopped taking the quiz at that point.
+6
Level 74
Dec 14, 2015
"Triomphe" has always been an acceptable answer. You typed it wrongly if it didn't work.

Technically, Stade de France isn't the biggest stadium in Paris since it's outside the city, in Saint-Denis. Therefore, Parc des Princes is the biggest stadium INSIDE Paris.

I thought of Orly as the main airport in Paris. What was the name of DeGaulle airport before it became DeGaulle?

Kindly accept CDG, the airport code for Charles de Gualle, as a correct answer. Am I wrong in thinking airport are codes commonly accepted in other quizzes?
+2
Level 74

Exactly, for whatever reason "degaul" is accepted so CDG should work too.

Also, and I will admit this is super picky, but Versailles, La Defense and CDG airport are all not technically in Paris.

La Giaconda and La Jaconde should both be acceptable for Mona Lisa.
+2
Level 94
Nov 1, 2018
to be correct, if you meant the name by which the painting is known in Italy, it is "La Gioconda", not "La Giaconda".

i tried Nike of Samothrace (in various spellings/versions) before Venus de Milo. Since both are kept at Louvre Museum i think both should be accepted.

Also: both are armless, of course

Aphrodite of Milos (or Melos) should be accepted as a correct answer. It is a Greek sculpture after all.

Can you accept Roissy for Charles de Gaulle? Most parisians call it that.

Yes. We also now accept Aphrodite and Nike (the other armless sculpture).

Isnt the first one City of Love?

People call Venice the city of love more than Paris. I would know as a parisian myself. People give Paris a lot of nicknames that are wrong (like the city of fashion which is supposed to be Milan but I agree that a lot of brands are from Paris). The real nickname of Paris is the city of Light.

Two things: please accept La Jaconde for the Mona Lisa as that is what it is called in France. Also can you make it accept Lutece as the Roman name of Paris?
+1
Level 74

In France, it's called "Joconde" (not Jaconde) and this is already accepted.

The question about Paris largest park is quite tricky, Bois de Boulogne is (in my eyes) more famous and only slightly smaller (846 versus 994 hectare)..

I am from Paris, did the quiz in a minute. I tried victoire de Samothrace, Victory of Samothrace, winged victory of Samothrace, getting frustrated and finally gave up on the only missing answer, blaming whoever came up with this quizz.

Then saw Venus de Milo and felt really stupid ahahah

Surprised that I got full points, although my last visit to Paris is so long time ago, I think, it was last century...
