I'm even more shocked that Colorado isn't on the list. I mean don't they border Mexico? They need lighthouses to keep the Mexicans out! They're gonna be yuge, beautiful lighthouses!

Not surprised by those two, but was surprised by no Connecticut, I think a lot of inactive ones there.

I figured Connecticut doesn't have many since it's basically shielded from the open ocean by Long Island. Though I'm not sure just how much that alleviates the need for lighthouses.

None. Lighthouses are for navigation in the dark, around points of land, not waves.

I wonder which one of those lighthouses was the one Dafoe and Pattinson worked at?

None of them, it was filmed in a purpose built film set lighthouse in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The film is based on a true story that happened in a lighthouse in Wales, UK

Interesting to see that the state with the highest number of lighthouses does not border an ocean.

michigan has a lot of coastline considering it pretty much has 5 sides surrounded by water. also lighthouses are moreso for small boats since large boats are docking at lit up urban areas anyways

The majority of these mark hazards, which the Great Lakes have plenty of.

Most of them in Michigan mark entrances to inlets. The coast is relatively straight and offers almost no harbors, except tucked inside the mouth of local rivers.

I was putting all the states on the Atlantic and Pacific and then realized at 0:47 seconds left that we can do states on the Great Lakes. So happy. 100/100! Good luck to all!

States that were late to the industrial development party got modernized metal poles with lights on top of them, not considered traditional lighthouses.

Thanks for the quiz. That's an interesting subject I didn't give much thought to. I wonder what constitutes a "lighthouse". I guess there are towers, range lights, and pier head lights. I assume there are buoys of some kind too.

Interesting to learn that prevalence relates to time. Guess it makes sense in hindsight. I'd like to know how southeast Canada developed. AFAIK that can be a pretty dangerous area due to the jagged coastline. Part Time Explorer, on yt, had a pretty interesting video about the late 1800's SS Atlantic wreck off Nova Scotia.
