It's going too far to say that there is no evidence Arthur existed. There is evidence but it comes from some time after he would have lived. It's pretty implausible to think that the earliest stories aren't at least based on a real person or persons.

"Evidence" is a high standard here. It requires reliable sources, with similar content and historical sense. Otherwise, each ancient fairy tale could be considered an historical fact.

Many legends could be based on real events or people but that's far from having real evidence, or that such people were or behaved like the ones depicted by such legends.

Wait, wasn't Washington partially deaf?

Edit: I googled and, aside from an unreliable listicle, this is all I could find:

I mean, he's deaf now. I'm sure it could be argued that he might have gone deaf before he died. I think the question is a bit vague.

No, he was not deaf.

The article you linked is just some people speculating that he might have had hearing loss from firing a musket. In which case literally every soldier at the time would be considered "deaf". This would make no sense.

Hence the "partially". Also, the fact that one person might have hearing loss from firing a musket doesn't mean everyone that fires a musket will have hearing loss. You're making a false generalization.

Yup, that's why the 21st century started in 2001 instead of 2000, because there was no year 0 for the 1st century to start in.

Great quiz, however the term "French territory" is quite broad. France has territories throughout the world, including in South America and in the Caribbean Islands. Obviously, they would not have been part of the Roman Empire, therefore the answer would be "false." However, France as a nation, on its own, certainly was part of the Roman Empire, so the answer is "true." Far be it from me to complain. I enjoyed the quiz. But, this question can use a little more clarity.

The question should rather go this way "Most of French Metropolitan territory was, at one time, part of the Roman Empire".

I don't think it needs more clarity. The only major French "territories" by land area are French Guiana (~84,000 sq km) and New Caledonia (~19,000 sq km), with the remaining territories being absolutely tiny (French Polynesia has a lot of water area, but a land area of only 3,521 sq km). In contrast, metropolitan France has an area of about 550,000 sq km, and the Romans basically controlled all of it. Even if you choose to interpret the question based on majority of all French-owned land around the globe, the Roman Empire still easily controlled a majority of it.

It's even more one-sided if you consider population. Of the approx. 67 millions French, 65 live in the mainland.

The wording of the Tiananmen square question made me think it was a trick q. IIRC very few people (maybe none?) were actually killed specifically at Tiananmen square, and the hundreds to thousands who died were killed all around Beijing in different areas. We only call it Tiananmen Square Massacre in the west because that's where the picture with tank guy is from. (And if I remember correctly, tank guy is still alive today, kind of highlighting the fact that the violence didn't go down in the literal Tiananmen Square.)

Guy Fawkes was actually born and baptised as an anglican protestant. Granted that his "relevant/known" years he was catholic, please consider rephrasing this question, maybe to "Guy Fawkes died being a protestant"

I'm pretty sure most deaths during the student protests at that day in Beijing took place outside of Tiananmen square if I remember correctly, so the answer to this question is questionable at least
+2

Oct 16, 2023
No, it's really not. It's called the Tiananmen Square massacre, even if it most of the killing happened slightly outside the square.

You're repeating a propaganda line from the CCP which is meant to obfuscate the very real massacre in which the government slaughtered at least hundreds (but more likely thousands) of students.
