How many people got the letter-writing scientists because they thought the answer was the father of the atomic bomb? :)

For a wee bit more balance, I think some questions about the disastrous effects of nuclear bombs would be good eg. how many people died in Hiroshima? what is MAD? etc. Maybe the name of the major global campaign against nuclear bombs (CND)? Or which country first went nuclear free? To me the questions about the names of the bombs are a bit offputting - see the film Hiroshima mon amour.

Wouldn't South Africa be the only country to go nuclear free voluntarily?

Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine all inherited nuclear weapons after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Or the film "In This Corner of the World". Brilliant and harrowing without being sensationalist or melodramatic.

To be fair, it's labelled 'The History of Nuclear Weapons', not 'Politics of Nuclear Weapons'. If you're put off by the names of the bombs, that's not really relevant; those were their names, as was the Tsar Bomba in 1961. It appears to me, and correct me if I'm wrong, that you're hinting at an attempt to normalise or possibly advocate nukes' use, for which there's no evidence here.

To me, treaties would be a much better addition than advocacy like the CND, which to me consists of a lot of nirvana fallacy thinking and moral relativism, and very little substance or realism in the quest to eradicate The Bomb. Why don't you make that quiz with, as you've suggested, 'more balance', though, instead of requesting the quizmaster amends this one? I'd love to take it, and I'm sure others here would too.

To be fair, politics are part of history. Looking forward to a sequel, no matter who makes it :)

Fascinating quiz, as usual.

Do you think it's a problem that Quizmaster featured in my dream the other night? Though I didn't *see* him of course - he was up a staircase, out of sight and earshot, maintaining his powerful aura of mystery. There was no way for a lowly soul like me to venture near. But somebody with a much higher JetPunk level than me, who had evidently earned permission to address the great oracle, did ascend the stairs to ask a question on our behalf and returned (of course) with the knowledge we required...

A glimpse into the true omniscience of the Quizmaster... or have I just been spending too long on this website?!

Perhaps Quizmaster really is too powerful, that eternal man... or thing, whatever "he" may be... I would recommended surgically removing your brain to truly be free.

It's a good quiz but it might be better titled "The History of American Nuclear Weapons with respect to WW2." America did a lot of testing and a lot of political brinksmanship after the war - a question about how Macarthur seriously wanted to nuke North Korea to contain China, maybe. Heisenberg, Nishina, Kurchatov, and plenty of other scientists in other countries oversaw nuclear weapons programs in WW2, and several other countries developed them after the war. Also a quiz on any nuclear history without mentions of the Curies, Rutherford, Lise Meitner or Fermi feels incomplete.
