Every time I see the answers on these it's a facepalm for me.

"What is the ridiculously obscure word no one has ever heard of that goes in this blank?"

(TIME RUNS OUT)

". . . it was 'shadow'."

I always get the least guessed one and then miss some completely "obvious" like, this time, window (widow did cross my mind, but...)

Got 11/27, realised that I recognised 14 of the 16 I missed. Oh how difficult this quiz series can be!

Great quiz. Kicking myself for the ones I missed, just like everybody else.

Have never heard the word "frequence" in all my years.

Me neither. I thought it was frequency. But another wonderful brainteaser from James, thanks.

It has an exceedingly low frequence of use.

I love Geography, so when I saw ax, I kept typing "Sfax", another thing playing quizzes on this site does.

When I saw "Saturday Stumper" in the title, I was afraid Stanley Newman had infiltrated JetPunk.

sadly doctory is not a word

Got a mental block once "orange" was in my head, couldn't for the life of me think of a longer 7-letter word with that ending.

Bailiff is another 7 letter word that ends in -iff!

The clue is riff not iff.

'Seax' is a word - any of lots of very sharp knives often used by dark age warriors to finish off downed enemies and a load of mundane things too, like cutting food to eat!

Interesting word, which I'd never heard of! My criteria for these quizzes is that the words be valid across all Scrabble dictionaries. This keeps the answers from being unreasonably obscure or archaic. Seax doesn't seem to be valid in any Scrabble dictionary.

I thought "Seax" too, though kiwirage's reasoning is totally valid

Well, turns out I can't spell. I tried 'sherriff' but not 'sheriff'

You should probably change the first set of words, since two of the “ax” words are in the bottom three most guessed.

Nah that's part of the fun, it's a really interesting arrangement of letters. (Also selfishly I was very satisfied when I caught on to the "oax" ending")
