Generally with anything alphabetically ordered the country name would be regarded as Bahamas, The. The same goes for things like ordering books in a library alphabetically, the 'The' is usually attached at the end so it wouldn't go under T.

When you make quizzes how do you change a cell from a hint cell to an answer cell? It doesn't seem to work.

Which quiz in are particular are you trying to make? For most, you would go to Manual Mode in Step 3, then click on a hint cell. Go to the area above the cell where it says Hint.

Change that to an answer, and the answers from Step 2 will appear for you to click on. Click on an answer in that, then you're done!

If you want to change the hint to answer in Step 2, add a new answer that is identical to the hint, then delete the hint if you don't need it.

First, I got all the answers hurdled up in Step 2 - Answers. In Step 3 - Quiz Design, I went to Manual Mode and changed the tops [hint / answer] to the continents, then color-coded them. For the bottom: I clicked "Insert Before: 2" while a bottom continent's cell was highlighted. For each "upper" empty cell, I changed the Padding (Vert) and Border Size to 0. For the "lower" empty cells, I added continental names and color-coded those.

Agree. I know you don't want to give enough time for everyone to just type in all countries of the world, but I also don't think it needs to be about who can think and type the fastest. I missed an entire continent because I ran out of time.

Neat quiz, but I'm also not a fan of "Federated States of Micronesia." Not a criticism of this quiz in particular, but this site seems inconsistent in whether the country's official name is used, or whether its common name is used. (It's not Islamic Republic of Iran, for example.)

On most quizzes both can be accepted which eliminates the problem, but not on quizzes of this type in which the first word matters. While the country is informally called Micronesia, Micronesia is also the name of the region which includes Kiribati, Nauru, Marshall Islands, Palau, and several US territories. I used to be one who said Micronesia should work for the country, but I've changed to the other side and now agree that calling it FSM helps to distinguish between the country and the sub-region of Oceania, so I'm okay with either. Which do residents of FSM prefer? In this same way this site doesn't usually accept America for the USA, but accepts China instead of People's Republic, Australia instead of Commonwealth, and Taiwan instead of Republic of China. There is no consistency among names of countries which makes quiz-making more difficult.

Agreed. Calling the country "Micronesia" is like calling the USA "America". Though that does happen a lot.

How about calling it, for alphabetizing sake, "Micronesia, Federated States of". Sort of like "Gambia, The". Keep the accurate reference that distinguishes it from the region of Micronesia, but keep the common sense alphabetization based on what the country is routinely called. (see also "Macedonia, Former Yugoslav Republic of")

It is actually extremely consistent on this site. All of the quizes by Quizmaster and most of the ones made by other prominent quizmakers use the full FSM. The reason is simple. Most countries have their official long name (i.e. "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" or "Russian Federation") and an official short name (i.e. "United Kingdom" or "Russia"). Meanwhile, FSM, along with both of the Congos, are the only countries that only have their official long names and no short.

Since in Europe, the two Americas concept is not that popular, it was pretty new for me to guess what is part of North America.

I'd rather say North, Central, South and Carribean if I really had to separate.

Ummm what? I'm from Europe and I've learned the 7 continent version with North and South America in school and so did a lot of other people. Maybe it's different in your country.

Well what country in Europe are you living in? Because I live in Germany and I learn North America and South America.

Only sometimes we say Central America too. But there is hardly a person in my class who would know a country in the Caribbean.
