Tampa is kind of a trick answer as the official name is "Tampa Bay" which of course is more than 5 letters.

Tampa Bay is a body of water. Tampa is the city.

Are you going to say "The Bay Area" is the official name for San Francisco next?
+3
Level 69
Jun 20, 2020
This is half right. Tampa Bay is the name of the metro area, though Tampa is the principal city of that metro area. Just as Twin Cities is the name of the metro area for Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minneapolis is the principal city of that metro area.

Typically the metro area is just named after the principal city, so Minneapolis is the name of the metro area.

There's only one Utah answer and I got it, though I'm not from there. Probably would be more helpful to be a resident of Texas.

Yeah, not really sure why I made that comment. I think Provo might have been among the least guessed at the time.

I really expected there to be a lot more towns in Utah on this list - between Ogden, Orem, Moab, and Sandy, I would have thought at least one had 100k people in it.

Moab has about 6,000 people. I think the others are in other metros.

How does Mesa have over 500,000 people in the city proper but not make the list of Metro areas when the smaller Metro areas are under 250,000?

I have never heard of Ogden and it's got 3/4 million people? Crazy. Salt Lake and Provo are the only Utah cities i thought were even CLOSE to that size.
