Hah, I live in Carpathian Basin, but I never know about that name. In Serbia we call it just Pannonian Basin.

Hey jitb, I'm not sure it states Magyar as the origin. I think that's how it got into French and thence into English, but the origin is Slavonic:

Etymology: < French vampire, < Magyar vampir, a word of Slavonic origin occurring in the same form in Russian, Polish, Czech, Serbian, and Bulgarian, with such variants as Bulgarian vapir, vepir, Ruthenian vepyr, vopyr, opyr, Russian upir, upyr, Polish upior; Miklosich suggests north Turkish uber witch, as a possible source. Compare German vampir, vampyr, Danish, Swedish vampyr, Dutch vampir, Italian vampiro, Spanish vampiro, Portuguese vampiro, modern Latin vampyrus.

The question about the cargo cults could include just about every island chain in the quadrilateral formed by Indochina, Australia, Chile and California. Maybe a rewording or replacement would be in order?

While not disputing the title "Hermit Kingdom", it is a bit stupid. Kim Jong Un, like his father and grandfather, is revered as a god by "his" people, but not a king.

originally the term was hermit nation and applied to korea as a whole up to around 1905 as it kept itself separate. a hermit kingdom is a generic term for any such country now, and north korea is the most obvious example but as you say not actually a kingdom.
