If I remember correctly, the shooter stood on a wobbly chair as FDR drove by and ended up hitting the person next to him, who was mayor of the city he was visiting. I think it was Chicago, but I'm not sure.

Cermak was the mayor of Chicago, but the shooting was in Miami a few weeks before the old inauguration date of March 4, FDR still only President-elect at that point. As opposed to the second Ford assassination attempt where a man grabbed the female shooter's arm, a woman grabbed the FDR shooter who hit Cermak and others. One woman died and the mayor died 2 days after the inauguration. The assassin was fried in the electric chair just a couple weeks later.

Missed the two least-guessed answers. Wasn't aware that FDR was Secretary of the Navy or that he survived an assassination attempt.

That was the quote from Teddy Roosevelt after being shot. And I had heard that story. Wasn't aware that Franklin also survived such an attempt.

Only missed the childhood wealth one. For some reason I thought FDR lived on a poor farm in his youth.
