If we calculate views/population of that country, Singapore and Israel stand out a lot

Not that much. Singapore is more poulated than New Zealand, and Israel is almost twice the size. Main pattern seems to be, large population or good English ability. Actually you may be right for Israel, depends on how good their English is.

Don't forget the political factor, which is why many of the smaller countries appear on this list.

According to Wikipedia, 85% of Israelis speak English.

I only guessed Israel because that's where I live - and I was surprised to see it as an answer. I missed Singapore. It looks mostly like countries people want to visit, which is why Israel stands out - we have many fewer tourists than a lot of nearby countries that aren't on the list.

I think that lots of people want to visit India. I don't think that that's what drives Wikipedia views.

Really? I think its a massively popular place that people want to visit. So rich in cultural experience and very diverse things to see. If the quiz is based on people looking up pages for tourism then I'm not surprised its high on the list.

eh. I've been to India a few times and the only people I ever see going there are people visiting their family. India might have a rich culture worth visiting but a lot of other factors make India a bad choice for a vacation.

I went to India when I was 9. I was a naive white boy but I absolutely loved it. My friend, who is also white, was going to live there at one point. My dad lived there until he was 12

I think you're probably overlooking the reason why India is so high: population. It's pretty expected that a resident of a country or a member of that country's diaspora will at some point look it up on Wikipedia. The reason why China isn't higher is because Wikipedia is blocked there.

That is massively incorrect. India is an amazing place to visit and you should definitely go.

I'm sure that a lot of factors weigh in with a time span of 10 years. There's so much data on Wikipedia articles about countries. Some sure did that for planning a visit. Others probably simply wanted to know the population/size/capital/climate/president/currency/history...

Wikipedia is not a travel website. Israel's inclusion didn't surprise me at all considering the politics, news, and religious/historical significance.

I agree with Kal. When I think of what to look up on Wikipedia, it tends to be current and historical events.

I did my guesses by how often the country is on the news. If someone wants to find out more about something on the news, what better place than wikipedia. That's how I got Israel

As on the most-searched cities quiz, Singapore shows up. Since it is both a city and a nation, it is essentially double counted on both quizzes.

It seems like there is a bit of a bias favoring English speaking countries.

I got them all but I was totally confused at first a kept typing in countries that have been in the news over the past decade (Afghanistan, Sudan, Syria, Iran, etc.) I was surprised searches for these places were so low. Maybe I didn't understand the point? Once I entered the countries with generally more wealth and tourist opportunities, I seemed to be back on track... I guess maybe people search them because they want to visit these places...My wikipedia searches are almost always about the more seemingly low profile countries like Eritrea or Burundi or Vanuatu!

Assuming that what drives Wikipedia views is curiosity, I would have expected more views for countries that are in the news but not well-known by many Westerners. To this end, Israel and Philippines makes some sense. But I expected North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen to get more views. Instead it seems like it is a lot of Westerners...reading about themselves?
