Yes, to take away the ambiguity, it should be written Southern California. It is the only school that is abbreviated in such a manner even though BYU is just as common an abbreviation but not used.

I've always heard it called the university of south central, since that is actually where the campus is located.

As someone that lives in the Carolinas, I put Columbia for USC. When it didn't take I got the right answer.

Right?! I don't think major US cities qualify as college towns. Neither do places like Waco where there is very little college life.

Thanks for guessing Atlanta for Georgia yielding the answer for Morehouse (for which I had no idea). Bet this is why the latter's % is relatively high.

I was unsure of what city Duke is in so I first tried Raleigh yet got credit for Durham. Why? They are two completely separate cities.

Well the local airport is the raleigh-durham airport so it would be understandable for folks to lump the two together.

Yeah, I would jettison the large metropolitan cities (LA, Atlanta, etc.) and go for real college towns -- Oxford, Palo Alto, Bloomington, State College, Hanover, Ames. If you're going to include small liberal arts colleges like Spellman, then the list grows: Claremont, Gambier, Galesburg, Northfield, and so on.

Raleigh is just wrong. Duke is not in Raleigh. Chapel Hill is closer to Duke than Raleigh.
