One of the dumbest memes to emerge in the last many years is the thing where people say that they are against "ism"s... how can you be against a suffix? Say you are against absolute ideologies, okay, but... are you really going to come out as being against tourism or abolitionism? Humanism? Egalitarianism? Isn't being against "ism"s itself just "Anti-ismism?" So you're being a hypocrite. Like those dorks who used to wear those extremely trendy "trendy people suck" t-shirts.
He'd only be a sadist if he predicted it but told you the opposite? i.e. "Kit yourself out with Bermuda shorts, it's going to be a scorcher" before you die of hypothermia. Predicting bad weather correctly and communicating it is far from sadistic. However, if he controlled the weather...
I don't agree with the definition of nihilism. I don't believe in anything and I don't feel myself being a nihilist at all. I'm rather an agnostic and a sceptic... Nihilism is the rejection of everything, not only beliefs fut also facts, morals, culture, etc.
Also, to not believe in anything would require that you reject everything as untrue and unreal... including morals and such. Therefore, if you are what you say you are, you are what you just said you aren't.
I'm not able to discuss philosophy in English. So, I will just say that you can at least trust observation, there are some tangible truths. For me, a belief is rather anything that you assume to be true without any serious evidence.
agnostic/sceptic means you don't believe in god or any paranormal/supernatural things. It doesn't mean you believe in nothing at all. I'm an Atheist, I flat out reject the idea of god. but I wouldn't say I believe in nothing.
Hard to be a fan of Oscar Wilde if you are a fan the Marquis. The Marquis of Queensbury was responsible for having Wilde jailed for being homosexual (his son had a love affair with Wilde and he was incensed).
For some reason my brain interpreted the clue "stuffs animals" as someone who puts the stuffing in teddy bears. Couldn't believe there was a name for that.
I wanted to point out that radiologists are the physicians who *interpret* medical imaging (which include not only X-rays, but also MRIs, PET scans, bone scans, etc.), but they are definitely not the ones who actually take the images themselves. That task is performed by radiographERs, also known as radiologic technologists. While radiographers are well-trained professionals, they are NOT doctors. Just an FYI! :-D
I erroneously always though the term was "passivist" (as is one who is passive). Which still makes more sense to me; "pacifist" sounds like one who studies the Pacific Ocean !
Same root word, actually. Comes from Latin "pax," which means peace. The Pacific ocean is named that because when the first European explorers reached it, they were amazed at how calm and peaceful it was compared to what they had been sailing through up to that point.
More proof that Jetpunk is not just about seeing what you know, but about learning more than you already know. In 2015, I got 18. Just took it again 2.5 years later and got a perfect score.
I totally missed the Nihilist one and then after the answer was shown all I could think of was the line from the Big Lebowski, "But we are nihilists...we believe in nothing"
PhD folks... ha
