Why is "oil" allowed for the "natural gas" answer? They are two different things.

Perhaps the oil in Turkmenistan is a gas rather than a liquid.

I thought the same thing. If we're going to accept answers that aren't correct, can we also accept Tashkent for the capital, or ruble for the currency?

I put Tashkent as the capital, disappointed it wasn't accepted.

Wonder how many people got Akhal-Teke from the John Oliver segment.

I was definitely expecting to have to spell Berdimuhamedow

Same here. Never heard of Niyazov, but I would have gotten Berdimuhamedow. Even if first name were required too. Some names are just memorable.

Yes, thank you! When I read the name I heard it in my head with John Oliver's voice. Now it's hard to get out my head his nsfw monologue about one specific horse.

If anyone wants to take a quiz on Berdimuhamedow, try mine here! (I promise it isn't as difficult as it may seem. Also, I took out the NSFW bits :) )

Wiki says the gas crater was set on fire intentionally, not accidentally, although it was never meant to keep burning for 50 years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darvaza_gas_crater

"Wiki" is usually not a proper name and, when it is, it does not refer to Wikipedia. Please understand that "wiki" is a generic term that describes a type of website or software.

The term "wiki" refers to a type of site patterned after C2 Wiki, the original site to use the term "wiki" (an abbreviation of WikiWikiWeb). There are in fact many such wikis in existence, of which Wikipedia is only one. Therefore, referring to any one of them (except perhaps the original C2 Wiki) using the capitalized "Wiki" is incorrect at best, and to a somewhat experienced Internet user, can be painful to hear.

Although your intentions may be obvious, such a blatant misuse of language is nevertheless painful.

To illustrate, imagine seeing someone say this:

"Tree's leaves are turning pretty colors. I think Tree looks nice today."

Feel that pain? This is what some Wikipedia users feel when people use "Wiki" to refer to "Wikipedia".

Merv wasn't actually founded by Alexander. It was just renamed (briefly) in his honour at one point in history.

Since it doesn't naturally have access to the open ocean, it is a lake. It's actually the largest lake in the world.
