Data is from citypopulation (reference date january 2022) for 1 million cities and genomes (reference date may 2022) for smaller ones

McMurdo Station is off the map so has not been included

Dot size depends on rank within that latitude; a red dot indicates that's the only city for that latitude, a purple one means it's one of the two

I second this motion. A quick Google search shows that the entirety of South Georgia has around 30 inhabitants, well below your 10,000 criteria, and Grytviken has no permanent inhabitants.

Ooh, tough stuff! I suspect I’m not going to improve much on my first attempt of 96/131 without putting in way more effort than would be justified by the extra two points I *might* earn.

I'm never quite convinced by these official name changes where the government does it in the face of strong opposition from the people who live there. I think Port Elizabeth is still "known as" PE far more than it is as Gqeberha.

If Hobart is listed at 43, Launceston should be at 42 and would qualify as biggest at that latitude.

Launceston is at 41°26', so belongs just to 41, not 42 (Hobart is at 42°52′, so rightly belongs at 43.
