If anyone here is interested in alligators and happens to be in the Houston area, I highly recommend visiting Brazos Bend State Park. It’s an awesome place. Right now we’re in a pretty big drought and the lakes are pretty much empty, so you can see the alligators everywhere.

Another fun fact: there’s actually only one natural lake in the state of Texas, but there are thousands of man made lakes that are infested with alligators now. This begs the question, where did all of the alligators that are here now come from?

I would like to know what percent of the US population lives in each state. Probably 85% Florida and 1-2% for all the rest.

Per the source I found, the most - 2 million - are actually in Louisiana with Florida second at 1.3 million.

I think Florida just gets the crown of Gator Capitol because people built communities where the gators live and so we see the interactions. In Louisiana, there are hundreds of miles of swamp land where NOBODY is living so the gators can live peacefully.

It's true that we have a lot of swampy areas here, but it's not like it's the Everglades. I'm in a pretty populated area of New Orleans and there's still alligators pretty much anywhere there's water. If Florida gets the crown for interactions, it's probably just due to how much more populated Florida is than Louisiana.

Fun fact. If you are in Florida, you are never more than 100 feet away from a gator. You might not see the gator, but rest assured the gator will see you!

Fun alligator geography facts:

* The number of countries with alligators is fewer than the number of states with alligators. There are only 2: the U.S. and China (and maaaaybe Mexico, but the Wikipedia line that claimed this lacked a citation, and I was unable to find a confirming source on Google, though I'll admit I didn't spend that long trying).

* There is only one place in the world where alligators and crocodiles coexist: Southern Florida

I like these fun facts! I also believe that the American crocodile is much more "laid back" than other species of crocodiles, similar to the American alligator in terms of behavior.

I've also tried it and it's not exactly my thing. It's not bad, but it's better off used as a novelty parish/county fair type of thing. Gator on a stick? Make it two. Going out to dinner? Make it something else.

Interesting quiz, and one that is fun to "deduce". I know Florida has alligators from all the America shows I watched in the UK as a child, and then it was just a matter of typing out neighbouring states and expanding outward. Cool.

Had they not been in alphabetical order I would never have got Arkansas and Oklahoma. Started with Florida and just went along the coastline from there.
