Alaska does have a land border with a foreign country...

Needs to have the wording changed: "which can see a foreign country from its shores despite not having a land border with".

Or just remove Alaska.

Michigan and Canada have no land border but they’re right across the river from each other by Detroit/Windsor.

If we're being technical here, Michigan doesn't actually share a "land" border with Canada, its all rivers

Michigan and Canada do not share a land border. This is well known among the Michigan population. Google maps do not display this accurately. The borders were drawn specifically to avoid land borders.

I was curious and found Gull Island in Lake Superior at 48.262415°N 88.261533°W, northeast of Isle Royale. I couldn't find anything official to back it up, just a boundary line on Google Earth.

The boundary through the river near Sault Ste. Marie seems to clearly go through several islands though.

The many treaties and agreements over the St Clair, St Mary's, and Detroit rivers state that the border runs right through the middle, it's not suppose to cut any islands across. That one island in Lake Superior does indeed go across the border however, so "technically" you're right but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

International Boundary Commission shows no land borders.

Disputed, at best. Neither of those islands are inhabited any longer. Being that I grew up near Seaway Island, I know full well that if you land there and you don't phone the Canadian authorities first, you will get into big trouble. No one locally considers those little blobs of land to be part of the USA, unlike here in Vermont, where we actually celebrate Provence Point. If you look up whether Michigan has land borders with Canada, there are plenty of sources that say it does not, and only a few few overly pedantic arguments that it does.

I can't find an article that defines the term "land border." Several articles all give conflicting information.

Since there doesn't seem to be an official definition, it seems like "land border" should just be self evident...So only land, no water borders.

But if we're not counting lakes then Pennsylvania would be included. You can see parts of Ontario at lookout points in Northern PA.

Have to laugh that the high point of Louisiana, Driskill "Mountain" stands at 535 feet above sea level. At least Florida and Illinois have the good sense to call their high points (345 and 1,235 ft above MSL, respectively) a mound or a hill!

I'm curious what the definition of "visual range" is? In the case of Florida, are we talking about being able to see another country from the shore, or are we talking about going up in a really tall building? Bimini and Havana are decently far away... certainly not visible standing on the beach.

You can't see the Bahamas from Miami at sea level either... you've got to be at the top of that new high-rise building on a really clear day. Not sure if that should count here?

Quizmaster - I'm curious of your documented source for "that is within visual range of a foreign country that it doesn't share a land border with." I'm assuming that you're saying that Florida can see the Bahamas, but under what conditions?

Why not? It literally stands for 'Major League Soccer'. It isn't in the 'big 4', and makes a bit less money, but viewership and attendance is right up there with other sports, often viewership is higher than that of the NHL, say.
