I like this quiz! Simple, and easy for those who know it! Perhaps another quiz that's basically the inverse of this? (Example: The Great Pyramids of _____)

Why do you only have to fill in one word? Should be completely blank. That would at least make it somewhat challenging

Nothing. This isn't a list that gets updated or voted on; it is what it is.

So. A guy decided to write down wonders of his known world. He gets to 6 and instead of stopping there or choosing some other existing structure, he decided to make one up just to have 7. Yeah, right. Just some "scientist" trying to get recognised.

No, that's not remotely what is proposed.

Also the Colossus of Rhodes may have never existed, accounts of it are inconsistent (some say it overmatched the docks with boats passing underneath it, which would have it of huge size and would be in conflict with further tales of the Colossus falling into the sea with boats passing above it, etc.)

True. They could never have built them with the technology available back then.

True. That's why they used alien tech.

The Colossus of Rhodes most definitely DID exist. It crumbled after a few decades due to an earthquake, but the bronze shards remained in place for centuries, and were eventually sold to the Ottomans who melted them down. This is also very well documented historically.

The Colossus, however, never straddled the harbour. This is due to a mistranslation by some French or Italian guy (can't remember), of a text saying that the Colossus dominated both land and water, which meant that he was, like, really big, not that he actually stood over land and water.

Maybe an idea, would be to split the name of the city and the monument. So we would have 14 answers. 1 for Hanging Gardens and another answer for Babylon.

Ought to be Mausoleum *at* Halicarnassus really. Calling it the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus makes it sound as if it was the tomb of Halicarnassus, when it is in fact the tomb of Mausolus, located in Halicarnassus.
