Disagree- that would be like accepting "crown" for the Danish krone, Swedish krona or Icelandic krona, or accepting "weight" instead of the many versions of peso that are out there.
I'd have been very ashamed of myself had I not gotten 100%. I think Turku should be added as an answer though. The hint could be: "Oldest city" or "Ex-capital" (well, before independence under the Swedish rule).
That's news to me. As a Winnipegger, when I went to Finland I was treated very well (unbelievably well - it started to feel like a second home) whenever anyone found out I was from the home of the Jets. And now with Patrick Laine...
I am unfamiliar with his politics. But he is my favorite hockey player, and whenever I mentioned that in Finland, people were *ecstatic.* Things may have changed in the four years since I've been there.
How can you have a quiz about Finland and not include Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim? Without his leadership in WWII and after the war the Finns would be speaking Russian now. In 2001, fifty years after Mannerheim's death, the Finns voted him greatest Finn of all time. Outlandish, preposterous!
how did I miss the second gulf one..LOL its so obvious..and btw s afew I had no idea.I guessed horse for the finnish spitz.. and I can't spell the churchname apparently, cause I knew that one. I thought the northern province one was zealand.. but I guess I was wrong, like usual :P
Sami people are not the main ethnic group in Lapland even though they are the original inhabitants. Wikipedia article about Lapland: "the Sami people are estimated to only make up around 5% of its total population" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A1pmi
Accept Helsingfors for Helsinki and Tammerfors for Tampere please. They're both official names for the cities and they're accepted on most other quizzes.
Kinda feel like an idiot for not getting euro on this one. I think I assumed that Finland would have a unique currency separate from the euro just because all the other Scandavian countries do.
He is probably the most notable finnish born american. He did most of his notable work in USA, so he's not that famous in Finland. His father, Eliel, is more famous in Finland.
According to Wikipedia the second largest city is not Tampere, but Espoo - 279,000 population versus Tampere's 231,000. Perhaps this should be updated?
Looking at the map, Espoo seems rather inland to me. Maybe the author considered it more of a suburb of Helsinki? But deffinitely somethingh worth QM to at least consider.
Yeah Espoo is a coastal "city". It's also kinda ridiculous calling it a city considering its "central station" is like the least urban neighborhood in this municipality. It's just a bunch of districts that act as small suburbs in the western Helsinki area. Tampere also has municipalities surrounding it making its urban area bigger than Espoo itself.
And I have also seen it be spelt "Saami" more often.
They look at your shoes.
Thank you very much.
I've been living in Finland for six years.
Feeling ashamed right now...
