@ABritishCat - Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory, so it is under British sovereignty but NOT an integral part of the United Kingdom (the hint is in the word 'Overseas). Also, are you really British (despite your username)? My name is not Jack either - 'JackintheBox' is just a nickname.

It is not part of the U.K. implies it is Spanish or Moroccan territory. Yes it is overseas territory but you are implying it belongs to a different country. Yes I am British.

@abritishcat "Owning" something and being something is not the same thing. Throughout history a lot of countries ( well actually just a handfull of the same ones really) have ruled over another country. While that other country still remained a country and didnt become part of the kingdom/Country where the ruler was from.

@ABritishCat - The UK owns, rules, and has sovereignty over Gibraltar, but Gibraltar is not part of the UK itself. Just like New Caledonia is a French overseas territory, but not part of France. The Dutch East Indies belonged to the Netherlands, but were not part of the Netherlands.

SkukxDelukx's point is still completely wrong anyway, since the quiz is about capitals closest to London. The distance from London to Rabat or Lisbon is unaffected by Gibraltar's relationship to the UK....

I was wondering how Vatican City was closer to Rome given that to get there you have to go through Rome first :)

Interestingly, with different answers! Not only did different capitals from the 196 appear, but this quiz originally used the 204 country template which meant that Tórshavn made the cut. Featured quizzes are subject to editing to align capital city lists with those that appear in the World Capitals quiz.

It's frustrating when I know the city, just can't spell it. Andorra la Valle, Andorra le Valla, Andorre la Valle? No, no, no. Brataslavo, Bratislavo, Bratoslava? No, no, no. But that's not half as frustrating as missing Amsterdam. Sigh. I seem to have a mental block against learning capitals.

vella definitely doesn't translate as Spanish for beautiful. "bella" means beautiful. I suppose "vella" could be Catalan for beautiful, but I'm not even sure about that.

The clue is in the word, a dependency not a sovereign country. And even if you would have trouble keeping all those distinctions apart, it is not on the world countries quiz.

(Which sort of is a dangerous thing to go by, Because people seem to think that that quiz cant retroactively change facts. Like if it is in the quiz that somehow alters reality. (so the wrong order, they think reality follows the quiz instead of the quiz following reality)

If for instance, by accident, luxembourg wouldnt be on the quiz, people would argue to infinity that it is NOT a country and will defend that standpoint to their death...

Interesting - I'd be interested to know why Switzerland has no official capital. Bern is the seat of parliament and government in Switzerland, which I guess is why it is described, at least, as its de-facto capital.
